What is the difference between Brostep/Dubstep?

  1. Here's two good dubstep songs for you! (Heads up this will only sound good on headphones that produce good bass, or subs. Not on laptop speakers or iPod headphones)

  2. fuck brostep.

hey josh steele, why the fuck isnt there any bass in basscannon. take your midrange garbage and gtfo

  3. Oh come on, I haven't even figured out what the hell "dubstep" is yet and now I have to figure out "brostep" too?!

This shit is just too much. :p

Also, why is this not in the Music forum?

  4. catch up with the times, junkiedays.

    geez.

  5. Biggest fad of the 21st century.

  6. I've tried, but I don't even get it. I hear "dubstep" music and think "isn't this just another variety of what we've always called "techno" or something?" :p

"But it's 'dubstep', though, can't you tell by the bass?!"

All these names are getting so very fucking specific. :poke:

  7. It's pretty much being turned into different genre's like rock was and passed. There's only dubstep and brostep.

    tl;dr brostep = robot noises/screechy/repetitive mid-range bassline
    dubstep = smooth bass/no annoying noises/sub-bass culture

  8. blame the music critics. they like to be obnoxiously specific about everything.

but yeah it basically is bass-heavy techno.

and lots of WHOMP WHOMP WHIRRRR

  9. Two categories isn't that specific, especially for music with the only similarity being the bpm of the song..

  10. I'm going to fucking run over a Bro with my car just because his trendiness caused someone to name a music genre after it.

  11. lets keep the annoying dubstep threads out of general

  12. I think it's specific in the sense that the definition of these genres of music is incredibly specific.

You say brostep is "robot noises/screechy/repetitive mid-range bassline"

It's still basically, I don't know, would you call it? Techno? But with the added "robot noises" or a "repetitive bassline".

But I suppose if 'techno' style music with robot noises and repetitive basslines has become that popular, might as well make a weird sub-genre for it... :poke:

It's just all very strange to me. Like taking classic rock and calling some section of it "bro-rock" because it has a certain bassline with a specific style riff or something.

  13. also

  14. I agree with you there, but I wasn't the one to make these names. I only abide by these names because I've seen 'brostep' wipe out an entire genre (the root music of the genre) due to cheap, and most of the time(75%) talentless music. I do like listening to some of it, usually if I'm really drunk though.

  15. talentless indeed

  16. Which genre did brostep wipe out?

  17. dubstep:(

  18. lol this is amusing at this point

  19. So... brostep is basically just like dubstep but with "robot noises" and "repetitive bass", while dubstep is basically just a sub-genre of techno with a more specific style of bass...
But brostep wiped out dubstep? :p

Sounds to me like they're pretty much the same thing but people liked what you're calling "brostep" more and now that's the popular thing, so a word was made up for it so that we can all hate on it more.

  20. No it's completely different if you'd actually look into it. And I will continue hating as it's talentless/repetitive as it comes. That's all.
