Maybe if he can get all the main issues off the table and since the senate and congress are democratic dominate AND he is nominating 2 supreme court judges, there is a 1 in a million chance of full out legalization but more likely decrminalization.

1. He supports medical marijuana. 2. He supports marijuana decriminalization. Facts Only time can tell us how far he'll get with #2. It's just nice to know we have a president with an open mind on the subject. Especially with Barney Frank's bill.

You do all realize that Democrats are often times pushed to pursue drug laws even harder than their republican colleagues, right? Just look at the number of drug arrests made when George Senior, and when Bill Clinton was in office. (I'll give you a hint, they went up, a lot.) Democrats are put under pressure to appear harder on drug laws. I don't know if Obama is going to, so this is merely speculation. I think the only time that weed will be legalized is when a group of businessmen get together and decide what to do about cannabis, they will reach the only conclusion one could make about cannabis that makes any "good" business sense. Legalize it, and tax it. Maybe if Ross Perot were to run again....he's good with numbers. Or if next election year, all democratic and republican candidate die of craft services food table food poisoning, and Ron Paul is the only option. Yes Ron Paul, my plan is nearly complete...excellent. Last edited by Skinless Wonder; 11-07-2008 at 03:45 PM. |

theres no way he would legalize it. but i would definately see the possibility of a federal medical marijuana act. as long as more and more states make it decriminalized and see it having medical values, federal medical is a possibility

No, Obama is not going to single-handedly legalize marijuana. However, I do think he's more likely than any president in recent years to let pro-marijuana legislature pass without a veto... whether it's reducing the penalties for marijuana possession, or legalizing it for medical purposes. He has also stated on record several times that he would stop the DEA raids on medical marijuana patients and suppliers in states where it is legal. He says that he believes it has medical value based on scientific evidence. He doesn't believe it should be used recreationally, but he thinks penalties should be reduced for non-violent drug offenses. May not seem like much, but it's actually a pretty big step for the movement. We won't see full-on legalization during his 4 or 8 years in office, but we may see a lot of progress made. He's probably the most pot-friendly president since Jefferson! ![]() But of course, none of this can happen without a Congress that's willing to get it done.

This is where Rahm comes into play, because he's a great enforcer and wont be afraid to break a foot up in some ass to keep the party unified and get legeslation past.
