Obama has given plenty of speeches and debated about his positions, and they're listed very clearly and extensively on his website. Saying that he's nothing but a smooth talker is judging him on your first impression and not actually looking into it any deeper. Of course change and hope and all that is what you're going to hear at the rallies and clips on TV, but you have to pay closer attention if you want to make an informed decision.

- Graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991, recieving his J.D. degree magna cum laude.

- Elected president of the Harvard Law Review in 1990.
- Served as Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago in the 80's.
- As a lawyer, he represented community organizers, discrimination claims, and voting rights cases in the Chicago area for over three years.
- Lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1993 to 2004.
- Elected Illinois State Senator in 1996, and was re-elected in 1998 and 2000.
- Served as Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee in 2003.
- Elected U.S. Senator from Illinois in 2004.

- As a state legislator, he gained bipartisan support for reforming ethics and health care laws.
- In 2005, he co-sponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act" and added three amendments to the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act", which passed the Senate in May 2006.
- The "Coburn-Obama Transparency Act" provides for the web site USAspending.gov, managed by the Office of Management and Budget. The site lists all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward and provides breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract. Before this, such information was not directly available to the public.

He also believes in fiscal responsibility, something our federal government hasn't seen since before the Bush administration. Our country is more in debt than we have ever been due to the war, tax cuts for the rich, and all of Bush's flawed agenda. From 1990 until 2000, Congress had in place a Pay-as-you-go spending policy, meaning that any spending or tax cuts had to be equalized by cutting federal funds somewhere else and balancing it out. Obama wants to re-establish this policy, which has been proven in recent past to turn our national debt around... and he'll be able to provide tax cuts for the middle and lower class at the same time. None of the other candidates can explain their spending, or how they'll keep our federal government from falling into more debt.

If you just want to judge the candidates based on the catch phrases and campaign slogans, then go ahead... but you won't be making an informed decision. Huckabee wants to "take our nation back for Christ" after all...

Votes decide popular opinion. Popular opinion can be purchased for the price of some good advertising. And at the end of it, the candidate is going to do whatever he can get the money to do. If they money isn't their, he can't do it.
