rain protection idea...any thoughts?

  1. i was thinking of ways to protect my plants from harsh rains and whatnot, since we are suppose to have some here tongith and 2marrow. i simply bought some bamboo sticks (like 3' ones) for like 25 cents each and broke them in half. i put 4 in each bucket, with two pushed father into the soil than the other 2. i then bought (for 2 bucks) some cloth plastic - its just a clear wrap of plastic basically. i cut 1 foot by 1 foot pieces and i put it over the bamboo sticks - creating a little canopy. since two sticks are longer than the others, the rain water wont collect on top of the canopy, it will fall off. i took twisty ties and tied the plastic to the sticks - making a strong canopy and i cut any excess plastic off. the sun still gets in there and so does wind (so it beats using milk jugs cut in half). i know slight rain wont harm my week old babies, but i'd rather be safe than sorry u know...just incase we get some hard rain with it....you know what i mean? the only bad thing is that the plastic stands out slighty - but since noone really frequents the area and the surroung brush is pretty thick...i think they're alright. well, what do you guys think? thanks for the commments

  2. Good idea. Baby seedlings like a refreshing shower but can get flattened by torrential rain.

I have just noticed this is post 883. That was the cylinder capacity of my old Harley. Totally irrelevant, of course.

  3. thanks spanish fly, im glad u feel its a good idea as well

  4. Cut the bottom off a coke bottle, drill a hole in the lid about 3mm.

Keeps the bugs out, rain off, heat in.. its almost like a little greenhouse for you baby :)

  5. funny! you wouldnt have been smoking by any chance would you?

  6. Just a bit.

  7. i jus went and checked and they are working. some plants are leaning a lil but they shouldpop back up when the sun comes out. im glad i put it up, cuz if not they wouldhave taken a beaten. most of them are standing up straight and the rest will probably spring back up in the sun, i think right? this seems to be a gfood idea. one question tho: do you think the plastic can be seen from the air? i dont think so but the area is open and im jus hopin the plastic aint blingin from up above...any thoughtS?

  8. Umm.... you can always try make your own green house. very simple, just cut a 2L+ bottle in half and put it in your pot either side facing up - tip side up if you want a bit of rain to get in and bottom side up if you want it completly sheltered...
