Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Weed Balls

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by GeneralPhaze, Feb 9, 2012.

  1. 1. Have a quarter of a gram (if goods -- if mids, use a half gram -- if schwag, use a gram) per ball
    2. Spread PB on anything non-stick, sprinkle ground bud on top
    3. Roll the PB into a ball (any way, doesn't matter)
    4. (OPTIONAL) let the PB ball sit somewhere for a couple days. The longer it's out, the more potent
    5. Bake the balls in the oven for 15-20 minutes on 350F
    6. Dip them in fondue chocolate and you're good to go! :D

Just thought of this recipe. Can any edible experts out there check this out or have any idea if it'd work? If I hear good things, I'll try it and post pics.

  2. would most likely not be enough weed, but im glad you're willing to take one for the team to try it out

  3. No prob! My dude is spotting me an o of god knows what this weekend, but it's always dankest of the dank. Plus, I've still got a half o of Pandora's Box, that shit doesn't fuck around. :smoke:

I only plan to make them, like... one inch diameter, so it's not gonna be too big. maybe I'll bump it to 1.5 inch diameter.

  4. I'd highly recommend looking into decarboxylating your buds before you add them to your peanut butter.
Mixing them in your PB and letting them sit out for a few days will naturally decarboxylate your buds, but it's a good idea, when cooking with cannabis, to decarb in the oven as it will help convert more Cannabinoid acids into their active cannabinoid form.

The other thing I would recommend trying is lecithin.
Lecithin is can be found in both dietary supplement form (gel tabs) as well as in granule form.
By adding lecithin to your recipe you will increase the bio availability of your product, which in turn will increase perceived potency.
In a nut shell, lecithin breaks down molecules into smaller "pieces", effectively increasing bio availability and again, perceived potency.

    Decarboxylation + Lecithin = WIN/WIN!

    Sounds familiar :D

It's great to see that you have an interest in edible cannabis, and it's a good start too, but you should definitely look into activation (decarboxylation) and making a bioavailable oil solution; the CannaPharm sticky is a good place to start... I'll share a few links below. [IMG]

If you activate and make oil properly, you'll be able to get multiple, stronger, longer-lasting doses from the same amount of material that would be required for only one single mediocre dose using the method you've mentioned. :)

The quality of your oil is dependent on the process used to make it, as well as the quality of your ingredients. Cut corners, and you'll start needing to multiply how much canna you need, to achieve the desired effect. Cut too many corners, and you're lucky to feel anything at all, especially if you normally have regular access to high quality edible oils. :(

The oil source you choose even dictates where your potency is absorbed, and if it's converted and made even more potent inside your body!

The ideal oil source for cooking with cannabis is coconut oil, due to its saturated fat and medium-chain triglyceride content. It's the best edible oil source for rapidly breaking down cannabis glandular material, and for creating a bioavailable/readily-absorbable solution. Your body can easily and passively abosrb the potency contained in coconut oil through the portal vein and liver for conversion (much of your D9THC becomes the more 11-OH-THC) without even requiring the aid of bile salts.
But peanut butter on the other hand is less than half fat, it contains much less saturated fat, and its oil contains only long-chain triglycerides, meaning it promotes a lesser lymphatic absorption which bypasses your liver, and you miss out on the potentiating conversion which occurs there.

For the best effect, when using peanut butter as a 'solvent', at least several days to (preferably) several weeks of waiting at room temp is required to achieve decent bioavailability in addition to a brief initial heating to get things jump-started.
This is to avoid damaging the peanut solids and their flavor with excessive heat, while promoting adequate bioavailability or absorption.

    And that's if you've decarbed first. :)

    ---------------

It's not just a matter of eating some herb that has been briefly heated along with something a little bit oily; if your solvent is diluted, if you neglect to activate sufficiently, or if you otherwise rush the process a but too much, you'll be lucky to feel anything at all!

I would always suggest making a bioavailable oil or glycerin extraction, exactly to the potency you desire, and then applying it to the (preferably cold) edible of your choice. When cooking with herb, additional heat will always cause a degree of conversion and degradation, but cooking in peanut butter with too little heat won't encourage enough conversion, or even activation. Not only is a pure oil source a better solvent, but it leaves you with more room to work with and unlike peanut butter it isn't as prone to overheating damage, or to becoming stale after being blended with plant matter.
In peanut butter, it's a much more tedious and lengthy a process to create a solution, and without a solution, you just have free-floating cannabinoids which bounce off cellular walls in our digestive tracts, rather than passing through them... in other words, most of your potency goes 'in one end, and out the other' without absorption!

I think you'll also find that the taste is a bit better, or more like a home made 'peanut butter cup', if you make a cold PB 'fudge' with your oil, peanut butter, some vanilla and powdered sugar, before dipping it in your favorite chocolate as suggested in the Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Canna BOMBS recipe. :smoke:
