Should I do my English discursive essay on whether or not weed should be illegal?

  1. I have my English discursive piece coming up and I need an idea. I was planning on doing whether or not marijuana should be legal and the likes of tobacco being illegal, is this a good idea or stupid due to practically showing I smoke weed? A discursive essay is where you take a point and argue your side on it btw.

If you think it's a bad idea tell me, if you think it's a good idea to do it on this then I'd love if you could give me some good points to use?

    Cheers blades!
    Peace :smoke:

  2. Even if it shows you smoke weed, it will be a great arguement. It wi have more passion in it than just doing an essay on some other stupid shit you don't care about. Don't worry about being judged, I'd sure as hell write an essay on it.

  3. You should never be afraid to speak your mind.

That being said, speaking your mind gets you in trouble.

If this is a college essay, make sure you do all your citations properly.

For a subject like this, you will need credible references so your professor takes it seriously.

    You SHOULD do it

Whether or not your professor attacks you for it, no one can say.

I dont think you should live in fear though.

  4. Great reply the both of you +rep.
Any stand out points you suggest using, pro weed? :)

    Peace

  5. Wow a paper on weed legalization... ground-breaking

You might as well do it on gay marriage or abortion.

You're obviously intelligent, pick a more creative topic.

  6. and no one wants your gray +rep.

  7. Thing is, many people wont write about this due to standing out from people... I'm up for taking any heat to stand up for this argument.. Whereas with abortion, the subject is more "public."

  8. uggh.

  9. My point is that your college professor (especially an English professor) is unlikely to be impressed with that topic. With a simple set up like that (picking a side an arguing it), I think you should find a topic with more depth.

edit: sorry bout the rep comment, that wasn't necessary lol.

I'm sure his professor is going to be reading TONS of abortion/gay marriage essays n shit like that. It is a common debate topic. It will probably piss him off to read like 600 of them. By weighing it up and choosing an unconventional topic that most people wouldn't for fear of being judged, he is going to give his professor something new to read about. I still think it is a great idea.

And prohibition has history dating back like 60 years, there is TONSSS of in depth research he could use

  11. weed is a taboo subjects

abortion and gay marriage are not.

So yeah, I agree with godgaveusweed.

  12. I can't even...

did you not catch the sarcasm? I meant that doing a paper on weed legalization is common topic like gay marriage and abortion.

And what does prohibition have to do with weed legalization? Banning alcohol in the 20s is not relevant to the medical marijuana laws of 2012.

  13. Yeah, I'm sure his professor never sees papers on legalizing marijuana
IMO this is one of the most cliche topics you could pick.
Marijuana is not a taboo subject.

  14. your ignorance is showing.

  15. Just to say this is my 6th year (last year) higher piece (Scotland) and it's not really to be in much detail or length, it's pretty basic really... Think they're looking for about 1000 words or something...

  16. That being said, do you. I'm sure this essay will be graded on the quality of writing. If you think you could produce a well-researched, well-written paper on the subject, go for it. The fact that you're passionate about the topic will surely help you stay motivated.

I highly doubt that you'll take any heat for the subject, I'm sure your prof has seen the same essay many times before. Just don't expect any points for originality.
