Medical Cannabis in Portland, Oregon

As of January 1st, I am an official Oregon Medical Marijuana patient in Portland, OR! The benefits have been great so far.

First of all, it takes less than 24 hours to sign up and get verified--provided that you have at least 3 doctor's reccommendations for your Oregon approved condition. I researched a lot and decided to go with the Portland Alternative Clinic, and they've been awesome and quick. If you can call your doctor's office and get them to fax them your records, (I have chronic back pain, so one of my records was from a chiropractor--which doesn't count as the other two MD reccommendations), then you can [maybe] get an appointment as soon as the same day!

After I got a short medical exam at the clinic, we walked a small ways away to the Trimet (train) and went to an office to get stamped for temporary "cards" - shown to others as a state-sealed stamped piece of paper. Until our physical OMMP cards come in, we can visit Non-Profit resource centers around town [using our papers and ID as proof], and buy medicine.

I've been spoiling myself lately, because I haven't had this much strain variety since Amsterdam...(lol) I also joined a Cannabis Wellness Club in the city, which guarantees me a really pleasant and interacting experience--which is important to me, because I like great high quality primo stuff. I feel like the staff over @ Brother's Cannabis Club in SE Portland really understands my needs, and i've also had pleasant non-membership paying experiences @ Collective Awakenings in NE Portland. People here are always so nice at these places, and i'm starting to realize that it's possible that it might just be everyone is nice in Oregon. (Just moved here from New Orleans, LA).

I'm so stoked and looking forward to my smoking sessions with my newest sampler collection of White Widow, G-13, Sour Diesel, Jack Herer, and some smooth/creamy Blue Dream (hash). See you folks later!

11) Do I need to keep a copy of my application and any other information I send to the OMMP?

Yes! Per ORS 475.309(9), if your application has not yet been approved, denied or terminated you may provide law enforcement with a copy of your written documentation submitted to the department; you must also submit proof of the date of mailing or other transmission of the documentation. This documentation shall have the same legal effect as a registry identification card, until such time as you receive your card or you have received notification that your application has been approved, denied or terminated.

Op-get a gram of each and see what you like? Local groups will be having their "cannabis cup" soon, where you can sample upwards of 20 strains. Have you checked those out?

I haven't seen anything about a cannabis cup, but i'm brand new to the town--I just came prepared with my paperwork and everything. I've been looking forward to this for a very long time.

Oregon Green Free holds several medical-based "cannabis judging" events throughout the year. Prior to the event, growers on the OMMP from around the state submit their best strains. .
