So apparently nowadays indie means a specific sound/genre more than simply meaning music that is on an independent label/no label at all. That's sorta stupid in my opinion but it's just the way it is. Anyway, I've been so stuck on certain artists/other genres that I haven't messed with this type of music much lately. Which is a shame because growing up during my teen years I was REALLY into the stuff. Maybe you guys can suggest some new shit? Or just discuss "indie" music?

Here are some examples. All very good so check them out:

The kind of "indie" music I like the most is indie folk...I'm in love with it. But I'll try to give any of it a listen.

Yeah, I have a thing for folk/indie folk also. One of my favorite genres.

And here's another great song. So relaxing. 0:47-1:50 just sounds beyond awesome to me

You have good taste!
This one is amazing to watch when you're high, it kind of gives you the feeling of tripping.

the only indie i like tends to be the most mainstream indie. because when music is super indie it's like they're trying wayyy to hard to be different, and oftentimes even though they're all "different" they end up sounding kinda the same... and not even trying to make quality music anymore.

but some bands are indie and know how to make music. like band of horses! they're "indie" but they're kinda big now. the lead singer's voice is beautiful, especially while high: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7_s9H0BRrU]Band Of Horses - "No One's Gonna Love You" - YouTube[/ame]

freelance whales is reallyyyy indie, but good: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1KJs_tiL5o]Freelance Whales - Generator ^ Second Floor - YouTube[/ame]

Fleet Foxes will always be my favorite indie folk band. They are actually getting pretty popular. I can get lost in these songs.

As far as indie folk, Elliott Smith (I guess people call him indie folk) might just always be my favorite. He's my favorite artists out of everything actually, I've even gotten a Smith tattoo

That one is a little different. It's not really as folkish.

That's real dedication! This is my first time hearing him. I've got two music artists tattoos, but nothing indie. Might just get a Fleet Foxes on someday though.

Ah I'm a pretty big Neutral Milk Hotel fan too. I don't bother telling many people because it'll end up with me either being labeled a hipster or just pretentious in general. The hipster thing has sorta given them a bad name it feels like, but it's whatever really.

And if you like NMH you might like The Magnetic Fields. I dunno, other people disagree but I see strong similarity in the two. They've always went hand in hand in my mind for some reason. Vary highbrow moosic.

Double post for organization

I'm willing to bet there are some Pavement fans here. They're considered to be one of the best indie groups ever to get in the game by quite a few people. If you're not familiar:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8gdqWTgi9s]Pavement - Gold Soundz - YouTube[/ame]
^classic song

If you dig them, perhaps you'll also dig the Silver Jews. I believe some of the members in SJ are the same as Pavement's, the lead singer maybe? Eh, I don't remember. Anyway:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONbooypFSd4]the silver jews - smith and jones forever - YouTube[/ame]

Ah those songs take me back. When I was younger I would go cruising just for the sake of jamming to that album...

I feel like a lot of the bands in this thread have more potential and talent in their pinky finger than many of the popular ones.
