Problem since smoking "too much"

  1. A while ago, I decided to mix some fabulous strains. One part Northern Lights + two parts Dynamite + one part Bubblegum (I only roll pure, fuck tobacco). I needed 2 papers to get it all in there, so you can imagine it was quite a lot. Anyways, I smoked it all by myself. It completely fucked me up. I fell asleep in a very weird position and woke up 4 hours later. I was still baked as fuck.

    On to the problem. Ever since I smoked this, I need to cough a lot when smoking anything. I could smoke pure weed without feeling it in my throat (and yes, I actually inhaled). I rarely smoke tobacco (only with one friend of mine, socially), but when I do, I hardly feel it in my throat. When I smoke weed (any weed), I usually have to cough a bit after a few tokes. It gets worse the more I toke. Even to the point of almost throwing up. My esophagus feels weird and I make the throw up motion. When that happens, I usually take a few more hits and extinguish the spliff.

    Anyone knows why this happens and how I can get rid of it? :( It really makes smoking weed less enjoyable.
     
  2. This coughing problem happened because you smoke, and the way to get rid of it is to stop smoking.
     
  3. cut down on smoking, try water filtration aka bong/bubbler ect.

I kind of have the same problem, except I started packing poppers with tobacco (what we call them in my area) and I hit those non stop for half a year, ive quit since then, its been around a year now, and i cant help myself i cough after every hit. Would also like to get some info on this if anyone has any
     
  5. give your lungs a rest.. Make some edibles, vape, or take a t-break and see if the problem persists

    how often do you smoke?

    I take it that you mean to use a different way to deliver the THC, yes?

    I've thought about vaporising, but those vaporisers are expensive as fuck. :( I want to make my own bong using a water bottle, but I don't have one of those hollow metal "pins".

    Usually one or two times a week. I'm almost out of weed, so I guess I could try the t-break. I doubt it would matter anything though.

    Forgot to mention the coughing was MUCH worse when it first started.

    Stop using papers, or at least get better papers... when I was smoking on the road a lot, I used to roll joints, and blunts. I rarely, if ever, use them at home. The more I traveled, even though I smoked less overall due to being busy on the road, the more I noticed a little cough and a bit or irritation now and then. (I don't mean specifically 'while' driving, although I've had the naughty puff when I wasn't feeling well, mostly I don't like traveling/driving with obvious paraphernalia.)


    I switched to vaping pre-loaded carts of glycerin hash tincture with an 'e-cig' on the road instead, and still smoke tons at home, and haven't had any chest or throat irritation, or any coughing, since. :) Some people just don't do well with too much paper, even if it's of good quality.

  11. When I smoke too many joints and pipes I cough alot , I think it's resin in your lungs and throat , look at your bong , now picture your lungs from joints lol, but yeah stick with water filtration and don't over do it with the hit size

    Surprisingly, the unfiltered joint outperformed all devices except the vaporizers, with a ratio of about 1 part cannabinoids to 13 parts tar. This disturbingly poor ratio may be explained by the low potency of the NIDA-supplied marijuana used in the study, which was around 2.3%.


    Disappointingly, waterpipes performed uniformly worse than the unfiltered joint. The least bad waterpipe, the bong, produced 30% more tar per cannabinoids than the unfiltered joint. Ironically, the pipe with the electric mixer scored by far the worst of any device. This suggests that water filtration is actually counterproductive, apparently because water tends to absorb THC more readily than noxious tars. Like the waterpipes, the cigarette filter also performed worse than the unfiltered joint, by about 30%. Researchers speculate this is because cannabinoids are exceptionally sticky and adhere to other solids. Hence, any filtration system that picks up particulates is likely also to screen out cannabinoids.

    Perhaps , it's probly because I smoke joints when i have alot of weed ( it enables you to smoke alot fast and lazily ) when I hit my bong I usually take two or three hits and get distracted with something else , but I'll check that link when I'm on a comp I'm on that app now

    I'm using Smoking Brown. I used to use Smoking Gold before. They're long, but slim. Not sure if it's worse with Brown. I've only smoked Gold way before I had this problem.
     

  16. I know, it's crazy! The first time I found this out, I was in total disbelief. I was like "No fucking way, the water in the bong should make it healthier." but yeah, joints are better because they have a better THC to tar ratio. The less tar, the healthier.
     
  17. That study used cannabis with variable thc percentages, all mandatorily below 2.5% :) Since then (and even before then), no one has managed to recreate their results.

    I don't know about you fellows, but my bong doesn't have a motorized paddle and I don't stop for a few minutes to thoroughly shake it up with the water before inhaling :p

    "In the late 1970's, a group based at the University of Athens Medical School (Greece) conducted a series of chemical and pharmacological studies on marijuana and tobacco smoke.1-4 These scientists tested smoke that had been filtered through a water pipe and also tested the water itself, which contained both soluble and insoluble compounds. Chemical analysis revealed many different compounds in the smoke and in the water, as expected from the combustion of plant materials.

    The water did trap some THC, as well as other psychoactive compounds, however, most of the THC present in the marijuana passed through the water pipe unchanged.

    Pharmacological tests (in mice) revealed that some of the water-trapped marijuana compounds were responsible for producing catatonia and for suppressing spontaneous motor activity. In contrast, the water-filtered smoke itself did not affect spontaneous motor activity and did not induce catatonia, though it was richer in THC.

    These results indicate that water filtration removes some behaviorally active compounds in preference to others; this may be important when comparing the therapeutic effects of whole marijuana smoke to water-filtered smoke.



    Research has shown that water filtration reduces both the amount of particulate matter and the number and quantity of toxic substances in the smoke that passes through it. In a 1963 study by Hoffman et al.,5 the water pipe was found to retain 90% of the phenol and 50% of the particulate matter and benzo-a-pyrene of the original tobacco smoke. In another study,6 tobacco smoke components that were passed through a water pipe showed only a minor hyperplasic reaction and no sebaceous gland destruction when they were painted onto mouse skin. (The application of substances to mouse skin to assess carcinogenic potential is a classic toxicological test; the induction of abnormal cell proliferation [hyperplasia] is a red flag.) In contrast, tobacco smoke condensate that was not water-filtered induced strong hyperplasia and complete sebaceous gland destruction when applied to mouse skin in the same concentration. Salem and Sami,7 also using the mouse skin test, showed that there was a significant reduction of carcinogenic potential in water-filtered smoke compared to the water remaining in the pipe i.e., the water-trapped material was more carcinogenic than the smoke that passed through it. Indeed, when analyzed by thin layer chromatography, two carcinogenic agents were identified in the water itself, while only one was identified in the water filtered smoke. Therefore, water filtration removes at least two known carcinogens that would normally be found in the smoke.

    In summary, it appears that water filtration can be effective in removing components from marijuana smoke that are known toxicants, while allowing the THC to pass through relatively intact.

    The effectiveness of toxicant removal is related to the smoke's water contact area. Specially designed water pipes, incorporating particulate filters and gas dispersion frits would likely be most effective in this regard; the gas dispersion frit serves to break up the smoke into very fine bubbles, thereby increasing its water contact area. While individuals vary greatly in their smoking technique, state of health, dosing regimen, and so on, it seems that many patients could benefit from the use of water pipes to deliver THC. This would allow patients to titrate their dose easily while reducing the health hazard associated with smoke.

    sounds just like me. except i could never take a full on popper, i would just put a tiny bit of tobacco in the bottom of every bowl i hit from september of this year till now. i tried taking a straight weed hit and would cough my lungs out. my only explanation is that we both became addicted to the tobacco so it actually became smoother on our lungs. that's why im taking a 2 week t-break right now to try to go back to straight weed bowls without coughing. i'll let you know how it works out for me. day 3....
     
  19. Anyways, I'm going to smoke a few Golds and see if that's any different on my throat. I don't think there are any edibles that use < 5 grams, right?
     
  20. Smoke through it. I had it for like a week then it went away.
