Hello,
Well this is my 4th mother search. I am trying to get some different flavours and effects with this bunch.

Jordan of the Island: God Bud
Marapa and I tried to get a comparison grow going but all the seeds were duds. Ccostal joined in but the DOA seeds kind of ruined the whole vibe.
Well, I still want the strain. Everything that was said about it during the failed comparison grow convinced me it was a good choice. I especially like the fact that the effect was called 'relaxing'. Now I could use a pot that relaxes me. :smoke:
From Kind Seed:
A smaller plant, darker in color, with some of the most powerful aroma and flavour you'll find. This one is everyone's favourite! God Bud has been grown by others and even won the 2004 Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam.

Next Generation Seeds: Timewarp
I just ran this one and had very bad luck. Six out of eight were males and the remaining two looked like they switched from being male to being hermies (so at least I get some bud!). It is supposed to be a lemon smelling pot with an uplifting high. Who couldn't use a lift now and then?
From Hemp Depot:
Canada’s most popular and reliable outdoor strain. Over 30 years proven outdoors in the wet west coast forests. Strong Lemon flavour and smell with a very uplifting high. Early flowering and mould resistant strain developed exclusively outdoors at the 49th parallel. Very versatile strain that thrives in many different climates outdoors. Consistently large harvests and great taste is what Timewarp is famous for. 1st place winner BC Harvest Cup, Outdoor category. Genetics: Mostly Indica Structure: Medium, wide, branchy.

Greenhouse Seeds: Trainwreck
Like the Romulan, Chemo and I think Timewarp this is a 'clone only' plant that has been reversed engineered like C99. Possibly not exactly like the original clone, but if the Chemo and Romulan are any example of the C99 method, it will be wicked. The trippy on the brain part should be interesting.
From Hemp depot:
Effect: Like the name suggests, a real blast. It hits fast, and it hits hard. Stoney on the body, confusing and trippy on the brain. A truly powerful smoke.
From Homegrown Fantaseeds:
The Train Wreck is a combination between Mexican, Afghani and Thai genetics. This sweet tasting strain originated from Humboldt county USA where it was a famous "clone-only" strain that is now available through Homegrown Fantaseeds. A Sativa dominant strain with Indica growth patterns thanks to her Afghani heritage and will produce semi-dense buds with a very strong fruity smell and long lasting sweet taste.
I am going for 4 Trainwrecks, 6 God Buds and 6 Timewarps to make 16 plants.
I am germinating an extra seed for each type so I have a few spares if some don't make it.
I am going to be doing something different this time. I want the mothers in time to make clones for summer so I am starting them before the current grow is finished. Convenient that I went out and got some nice florescent lights. Just moved one into the furnace room and bingo: a nursery.
These are killer strains and I am really looking forward to adding them to my Green Mansion!

Hey Im with Marapa save me one as well! Or at least a seed or two if you plan to breed! I would go buy some but I just bought some seeds and I had to literally beg and get down on my hands and knees to persuade the hubby to let me buy some more beans lol. Really looking forward to your grow!

Hi Marapa and DG,

I am pretty pumped for this one. If I can get three mothers I will be nearly done my search. It's way more work looking for a mother than just growing some clones.

The rewards will speak for themselves though.

I had a few seeds sprout overnight so I put one God Bud, One Trainwreck and three Timewarps in the dirt this morning.

This is always the most nerve wracking time for me.

Hello,

Going good for day 1.

All the Timewarp are in the ground. All but one Trainwreck are planted and there are only three God Bud Seeds left to sprout.

I think the seedling mat was a little too warm (one of the Timewarp seemed brown) so I moved them to the top of the florescent light. It is still warm, but not as warm.

Now I have to see if they shed their shells.

Sterces, I noticed you're searching for good mothers, I used to do it the way you are but it's extremely time consuming. An alternative that I've been trying for a few months now with great success is re-vegging:

I start my seeds under 24 hour light in very small pots (250ml sized 3.5'' square pots). When they have their first adult leaves I pop them into 12/12 in the same pots and keep them close to the lights. The idea is they grow a compact small budscicle (except sativas which still sprawl but the small pot keeps them short). Grow it to optimal harvest and you have a good sized sample to try out.

Here is the critical part: when you harvest you cut off the main stalk but leave at least two popcorn buds at the bottom (or more). You also take the root ball out of the pot and with a very sharp knife cut a sliver about a quarter of an inch off the bottom and all four sides, just slice off the root ball like bread.

Repot with new soil in the bottom back in the same pot and new soil on all sides and a little new soil on top and feed with growth ferts and put under 24 hour light.

Now you can sample all the harvest at your leisure (give it time to age and get tasty) while the mothers are revegging, non keepers just get chucked and keepers you leave and they *will* start growing new shoots (lots of them) and you're ready for the next round.

This saves a *tremendous* amount of time off the old method of vegging a bunch until big enough to cut a clone and save on a lot of resources and space etc.

The key is the root trimming bit, without that re-vegging is much longer if it doesn't fail completely. It seems to trigger a survival response and you will see new roots in days poking out the drain holes.

Hello GATTICA,

Thanks for dropping by.

That's good advice on saving effort on the mother search.

I tried in vain to get Chemo and Shiva clones from all the plants in my first grow. Even into flowering and got nothing. (I was drowning the clones)

Then I found This thread and saved them both.

Re-Vegging the OGH way = Foolproof

I also got my Romulan mother that way. I used the lazy man's one (should be no surprise) without the root cutting stuff. According to the thread it will work better if you are trying to re-grow for bud if you cut the roots, for a mother it doesn't seem to matter.

Anyone who is looking for a mother plant should think about this approach.

Hello,

Well I just spent the last hour in surgery.

Every one of the plants has been born by C-section. I have had to help it shed its shell. Tonight I had to dig up the remaining ones and using a tiny screwdriver split the shell. Then pry the shell off the seedling. If it didn't come with the shell I also had to pinch off the little skin that will prevent the two seed pod leaves from opening up.

Two of them had the seed head snap off in surgery. A few others are touch and go, but any plant I get is a result of an intervention.

I suspect the high germination temp caused them to pop before the shell had a chance to get weakened through soaking.

Who knows.

I still have two Trainwreck-f (maybe more), 3 (maybe more) God Bud and four (maybe more) Timewarp. I don't think I would have any if I hadn't helped them.

The numbers don't look that great but it only took one Romulan.

I'll take pictures tomorrow, if they green up over night they might live.

Hello Marapa,

>>

Yeah, definitely my bad. I baked them on the seedling mat and forgot to put sand in my soil mix. The soil is hard to keep at the right moisture level. Some cups have been soaked from the start, others dry out. But a bad experience like this will make me more careful in the future. Or so Possuum says.

I am still optimistic. (Must be the canna-oil caps)

I have two Trainwreck that look like they will go. Being feminized I should be good for a mother. Right there, I am ahead already.

I appear to have 5 Timewarp. One has the scars from surgery and only one of the seed pod leaves the 2nd set are green, but I have seen worse survive. Considering I had 8 last time and didn't get a full female I am hopeful I won't have the same bad luck.
My luck with god Bud is still not great. I have three that look good, but two of them are on cups that won't dry out. I am worried about rot.

Ten out of 19 is 52%. Not great, but I still have a shot at all three types

Oh well, all I can do at this point is watch and wait. (and remember I still have 3 god Bud and 3 Timewarp seeds left)

A shot of the survivors

Hello RockNugget,

As if in response to your interest, a Trainwreck that I had left for dead when I went to bed last night is back and healthy looking. I now have three Trainwrecks. Since they are feminized I am sure there will be something to see in a few weeks.

57% and I haven't given up on a couple more.

Hello,

I have been watching two plants since removing their seeds cases. They have grown a stem, and now one has produced the second set of leaves. If it lives (and I can't see why not at this point after all it has been through) it will be my fourth God bud.

Just amazing.

The second, which still hasn't 'opened' yet would be my fourth Trainwreck. If it shows some green I'll take a picture.

Hello,

The little ones are coming along.

The smallest Timewarp and God Bud (had seed removed) have grown out and pretty much caught up to the other ones.

The last Trainwreck is still really tiny and may not be able to catch up though.

Looking forward to seeing what these strains can do.
