Crackheads Set Free From Prison

Discussion in 'Marijuana Legalization' started by karunado, Nov 2, 2011.

  1. A step in the right direction.

  2. what the fuck these people are criminals if they were selling crack or cocaine what else do you think they were doing? Lets get the pot dealers out and those arrested for possession out instead.

  3. The government has always favored drugs that destroy people over drugs that provide actual benefits.

  4. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but anyways this is really good news. These people were placed in prison for crack possession which has been treated 20x's more harshly than cocaine possession, even though one is the salt and one is the freebase of the exact same freaking compound.

These people should have never gotten the lengthy sentences they received. It is a ridiculous waste of money and a sad waste of human life:(.

  5. first of all, amen to what he said^^

second of all, from what i got from the video, this will affect those convicted for possession of crack-- not dealers. I am completely in favor of this. Drug addicts should not be sent to prison. They are NOT criminals. They should be sent to counseling/rehab. We should take lessons from Portugal cause thats exactly what they're doing.

  6. Set the drug users free! The government shouldn't regulate what I WANT in MY body.

  7. Good. Prison isn't constructive in its current state and drains the economy. Hopefully someone starts a rehab center to take on the crackheads so they can get some real, constructive help.

  8. think about it great financial move now they can serve it up to them, confiscate it back, and not have to pay the cost of incarcerating them.

  9. U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time OMG IT WENT DOWN FOR A SECOND I THINK!!! :hello: lol

  10. What this guy said! How are we free when we are told, what we CAN and CANNOT do with our body! Who are they too stop and punish consentual transaction's between 2 Human beings? I hope these "crackheads" reform there ways and dont go back on the crack... but, atleast now each of them have seen the Illusion of freedom for what it is and the dark truth of how easily taken away that "freedom" can be...

  11. Crack cocaine laws are an example of RACIST DRUG LAW.

    $500 in Crack = 5 years
    $20,000 in Cocaine = 5 years
THIS IS THE SAME DRUG. FUCK YOU GOVERNMENT.

  12. this happen a few years ago here in Illinois.. Gov. Quin released a shit ton of "non-voilent" offenders.. 65% of those released where back in the system with in a year, most with worse charges than they were released with.. not a good idea!

  13. add a pistol to the mix and your really fucked.. * FELONY, INCREASES PENALTY TO 15-20-25-LIFE

Increased Penalties for use of Firearm During Commission of Offense:

1)Use of firearm during commission of offense: 15 years added to sentence imposed
2)Discharge of firearm during commission of offense: 20 years added to sentence imposed
3)Discharge of firearm causing death or injury: 25 years or up to natural life added to sentence imposed

I believe all non-violent drug offenders should be released at some point - the sooner the better.

That having been said, recidivism rates for drug offenders are nearly 2/3. These people have significantly more problems now than they had before they were incarcerated, no doubt about it. Prisons are demoralizing, soul-destroying, hell-on-earth institutions. Almost ALL of these people have, at the very least, PTSD-related issues.

I honestly believe that releasing these people without providing them the benefit of a mental health program for reintegration is akin to releasing the slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation without providing them with the education necessary to earn a living. "You're free. Now get lost!" Most simply went back to indentured servitude, which ended up being little better than the conditions from which they were released.

I bet the vast majority of these people end up right back where they came from, just on different charges. This, while having the appearance of being based on "good intentions" is nothing more than another thinly veiled political game.

I can also see the prohibs using this fact later down the road to impede efforts at releasing non-violent marijuana offenders: "Just look at what happened last time we released drug offenders!"

This needs to be approached with significantly more forethought and planning, for both their well-beings and the safety of our community on the whole.

  15. I was incarcerated for a class 4 felony simple possession of psilocybin. 1 year in the pen for a mere 2 grams.. Talk about an X on your back! I now see why once in the system its so hard to get out! Ive finished my parole without incident. Yet havent been able to get a job since 2009. If i didnt have 3 kids and a wife with a good job, i probably would have tried to make it how ever i needed to. Such bulshit. Yes ive made mistakes, we all do. Why should something i did at 19 keep my from providing for my family at 25? so i can see where there are those that try to do right and are sucked right back into the criminal element. But there are always 2 sides to every story. There are those that are institutionalized! And no ammount of counseling would ever help.. Example.. someone who just spent the last 15-25 year imprisoned Will not be able to re-assimilate to become a productive member of society.. That would be like taking a person thats grown up there whole life in cartel torn Juarez, Mexico and simply give him a house in a gated community and expect all to be well. Never gunna happen!

  16. unless you've lived it, you cant understand it.

  17. The sad fact is rehab is a bigger joke than jail or prison. People now know that if they get caught with meth/coke/heroin they won't do any time, all they need to do is cry a sob story to the judge and then they get a free trip to treatment. Meanwhile they continue to do they same things as before because there was no punishment to deter them.
    imo bad idea
Do people really think the majority of these people are ever going to do anything different with their lives. Wake up and smell the crack smoke friends. No I'm not a pessimist more like a realist.
As the saying goes don't do teh crime.....

  18. they have prisons here that cater to addicts.. they dont play that shit here..if you opt for the drug prison you will receive time off your sentence once the program is completed, which is bulshit..

  19. I read through the posts didn't see anyone mention this yet but I quit looking after a few, lol..

anyway--- I remember when this law passed, was a long time ago.. can't believe it's taken this long to turn into reality.

THE LAW WAS RACIST. As a whole, crack is a drug used by blacks and cocaine is used by whites.. so that's why the disparity in the law and the need for change.. they changed the sentencing of crack to be more equal to that of cocaine... so that we aren't sending black guys to prison for 30 years for crack and white guys for just a few for cocaine.. when its essentially the same thing... get it ? So this is why you should be happy, and appalled that this law was allowed to continue on in this way, almost a half century after the civil rights movement !!
