ur not gonna cause hermis in veg...not with this schedulle
This ^^^^^^^^^
Any decent digital timer can do it, nothing too special needed other than the ability to have 2 on and off cycles per day...which most do. Also, for the whole "why even attempt this" idea....just think for a minute, what if doing this only equaled how we veg currently (18 or more hrs light). That alone is enough as it saves electricity. Now if every veg room ran this cycle, that's a nice benefit worldwide. peace - ogh

A change like this is without compromising yield or the health of my plants is badass to say the least. They say this is actually BETTER. So in the end your left with: Savings on electricity Bushier more healthy plants. Who the hell WOULDN'T do this?
It seems too good to be true! Haha. Can't wait to try it out... I'm just glad now I can use 600 watts instead of 400, but I'll still be buying a dimmable ballast in case I have to swith to 18/6.
There is still the old fashioned way, and I may be showing my age here, But- you can run flourescent side lighting if it works with your space and accomplish the same thing. I did it on several grows in a walk in closet and it works just fine. During veg I had my HID running on 12/12 and the flouros on 24/0. Obviously that wouldn't do well in a large growroom, but I think the saving's would be even more for single HID setups. Also, the idea of this isn't a new one, it's just new to Skunk magazine. There were articles 15+ years ago on the same subject in other grow mags. They just took the idea from poinsettia and orchid farmers, that's all.

And your right about this being an old idea. Ive known about it but never really made the connection to apply it to marijuana. I shoulda checked out more grow mags! Haha well than again 15 years ago I was only 5 years old. Kudos on the intelligent responses. For some reason lately I've noticed pointless remarks and arguements about stupid shit
As soon as i turned my flowering room to 11/13, they started to bud immediately. Still waiting for clones to root
As soon as i turned my flowering room to 11/13, they started to bud immediately. Still waiting for clones to root
Today is the first day of my 11/13 cycle!
not saying they wouldn't have started soon anyway but I noticed a difference in less than 2 days. The plant knows what time it is for sure.
The article is from the November issue of Skunk. I don't think I said anything about using this for flowering. I said it would increase your yield because of the bushing that happens to the plant. I'm not completely new to this, I've had a few successful harvests. The whole idea here is to do this during the veg phase.
Doesn't anyone read with their eyes open anymore?
Hence the "doing my best to simulate" Any IDIOT knows you dont have clouds and there is NO WAY to fully simulate outdoors. But thanks for pointing that out to me. I thought I had outside inside my growbox. Once again, I really dont care how it all adds up. Ill stick to as close to natural light cycle as I can.
Why would you want to stick to “natural"? Do you not know that nature isn't the best at growing your plants? Do you know what a gazelle is? They live in the grasslands of africa. Out of all the places in the world and after years of evolution/migration they've choose to live there. Yet, they don't strive there.. Why? Lions. Do you know where they would strive? A safely fenced enclosure full of gazelle food and gazelles. Mother nature has not given them perfect living conditions because they would engulf the planet leaving little room for anything else, as would the cannabis plant. Moral? If you want to be natural you'd better leave your man made house, belongings and coverings behind and head for the woods. Just send smoke signals to update us on your progress, it's very natural
Without all the overdrawn dramatic stoner dribble, in regards to the light cycles. The electricity cost argument is invalid because if you run 24/0, they will veg faster, thus saving you electrical costs by not vegging for an extra 2 weeks or a month or whatever. And in regards to darkness, only the roots need complete darkness at this stage. I'm down with experimenting though and would love to see results posted.
To me it seems the dark periods are when she stretches reaching for the light.. I wonder if the extra growth is due to more darkness? I guess my question is does the dark create more nodes or just stretch the branches?

While 24/0 might seem like the way to go. There is no denying that a plant needs atleast some dark time to mature properly. Also the 12/1 cycle helps keep your op more secretive. 24/0 will undoubtedly leave a big imprint temperature wise. That above point alone is enough to make me want to make the switch. Because when it all boils down to it that is one of the biggest risks to most growers. Not the electricity bill Not the size of the plants Getting caught. I know a big majority of grows are still illegal. Anything that can and will decrease the odds of getting caught is worth it in my book
To me it seems the dark periods are when she stretches reaching for the light.. I wonder if the extra growth is due to more darkness? I guess my question is does the dark create more nodes or just stretch the branches?
From what I understand the light is like a mild drug to the plant. When you go from let's say 24/0 to 12/12 the plant kind of goes through "withdraw" and stretches toward the light trying to get its fix before being in darkness again.
Yep. I guess the extra stretch probably helps light get more to the nodes and stems cause 24/0 keeps the plant low and dense and the leaves cover the new growth needing light.
