its used to break the smoke down into smaller bubbles to create more surface area for cooling the smoke.. there is little filtration involved
Percs cool the smoke down quite signifigantly. They add a decent amount of filtration aswell. They also make it more entertaining to watch without much extra drag
In a bong having a perk'd tube is just to add more diffusion, meaning a smoother hit. Each perk will also add more drag (have to pull harder to get the air moving), and poorly made ones will add a lot of drag, well made ones wont add much at all.

this. the bong water definitively filters the smoke, but does it filter any thc out? to my knowledge not enough to notice. now the true purpose of a percolator is to make the bong more expensive and to add something that makes it easier to break when you set it down a little too hard I dont like percs, they break way too easily and cost too much. I like a regular straight tube, if i want a super smooth hit ill use my vape
I lol'd. I know you were being kind of sarcastic, but in a lot of cases, that's true. A good perc, however, won't break too easily. You must have had some bad un-reinforced tree experiences in the past..
