Hello good folks of GC. :gc_rocks: This thread will be updated every now and then with pics and I'll do my best to keep it up to speed.

Sorry about the misleading title. I had to lose the screen. See top of pg 2 for explanation.

4th grow - 3 gallon Hempy Buckets

Experimental Nute Comparison - Osmocote+ vs. Canna / FF trio

Medium: Start in mini-hempy's (perlite until just above the hole, 50 coco-50 perlite mixed, pure coco on top)

Transplant into 3 gal Hempys with Roots Organic Coco

Strains: LA Confidential (DNA), G Force & Power Skunk (Flying Dutchman)

Light source : 400w HPS

I've read other places about people having success using a slow release fertilizer called Osmocote+ in hempy buckets.

I'm going to do 6 plants total. 3 plants with OC+ mixed inside the medium (1.5-2 tbpns per gallon) and the other 3 with Canna Substra / Fox Farms trio.

I know people talk shit on OC+. I know all the downsides that it COULD HAVE and am more than willing to take the risk.

If it works well, Posted Image. If it turns out shitty, no biggie. Posted Image

Is perlite in the bottom third a good idea?

It's perlite until just above the hole, so I guess 1/3 was an overstatement. Maybe 2.5 inches would be more accurate. I corrected it.

A few ambers if I remember right. I didn't look at any sort of strain guide or breeder recommendations when I grew it. It turned out really good nonetheless and was the healthiest and had the best high of that grow.

This should be interesting. Have you considered adding gypsum to the OC+ to up your Ca? I can't find the "extras" in the OC+ using google does it have Mg added or is it the flower and Veg one that has the Mg?

I did a little experiment trying to grow a mother with 70/30 coir/perlite SIP on a spare clone I had using OC (not the plus) and gypsum. I was surprised by how well she grew. The standard OC doesn't have enough Mg either so I ended up spiking her water with Epsom but that was all I did.

I'm keeping her in veg so I can't say how well she would flower but I think with a few tweaks it could be an inexpensive and relatively low cost way to keep a mother.

Here is some research on using gypsum to amend coir. http://www.usu.edu/c...utCoirPaper.pdf

The osmocote plus is listed as having 1.9% calcium in it. Here a link to the label.

http://www.scotts.co...usPlantFood.pdf

I've never thought of using gypsum, but I'm sure it would work great. Thanks for that suggestion Romeo. I also have cal-mag if I need it.

Basically, this is going to be a really lazy grow. I'm going to see how little I can do and still get a good harvest. I've heard the oc+ is just add water and watch them grow, so we'll see how it turns out. :)

Thanks AG! Welcome my friend.

Well, some bad news. I realized that I can't do the scrog and the nutrient experiment at the same time. I just can't reach the back row of three in my small cab, so training would be a total pain when they got bigger.

I really want to do 6 at the same time to see which nutrient works better, so....I had to lose the screen this run. I gotta do it, but I don't want to. I already adjusted my old screen and had it installed and looking badass. Booooo. :(

Basically, the title of my journal will be misleading for the remainder of the grow because I can't edit the title now (or I haven't figured it out yet). Once I see what nutrient and strain works best this time, I'll do just three plants and add the screen next run.

Still waiting on those blasted beans too....USPS is pretty slow...urgh.

As long as you're growing again Jed, we'll be around for that showing.

I think UPS knows when we are waiting. It seems like a month sometimes!
