THC glycerin tincture

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by growl, Oct 10, 2011.

  1. Hi I am new here and have been doing some research on tinctures. I tried posting this before but for some reason, it didn't work.

Anyway, I made a tincture using 2 fl oz glycerin and about ~5 grams of weed. I put this thick mixture into an amber bottle and let it sit in a warm place for two days. I then put in a crock pot on low for 12 hours (with water).

I opened up the bottle and it smells very strongly but the actual tincture seems to not be an amber color (like some pictures online) and the weed is still green.

I am wondering is this normal? Should I let it go a few weeks despite doing the crock pot method? I just don't want to waste the weed after a failed attempt of cannabutter recently (I burnt it).

I am wondering for any advice on the subject, as well as an opinion on using the crock pot method. There is a lot of recipes online and it's hard to figure out what which one to use. I was just making a small batch. I would like to use this tincture soon and that's why I used the crock pot...

  2. It's real hard to look at the tincture and tell the strength

Its best to sample a bit and test the potency ;)

if it needs to sit longer ... so be it.

it its ready now, pour that shit up :hello:

  3. thanks for help :)

but have you used the crock pot method at all to speed things up?

Why did you add water? That's probably where you messed up if there's not much effect.

  5. Add water to what? I did a water bath for the crockpot...

And I did read through Wild Wills ticture...

  6. Ah, my mistake. I misread it, I thought you added water to the glycerin.

  7. You might have done it on too low of a temperature. :) Consider prebaking and decarboxylating the weed beforehand, so you don't have to play guessing games as to how high of heat the glycerin infusion can handle.

  8. I cook it for 12 hrs a@190f after decarb goooooood stufff

  9. just curious what are you guys using your glycerin infusions for?

Just be certain it's a gelatin (or vegan) gummy-type candy :) Glycerin is not suitable for home made hard candies and some chewy sugar candies. The first concern is that it vaporizes readily at low temps and glycerin acts as a powerful carrier or 'vapor vehicle', hence its use in e-cigs.
But even this wouldn't be an issue if you added it late enough in the process while the 'liquid candy' is cooling (as is recommended with oil, as well).

More importantly, glycerin attracts roughly 20% its weight in atmospheric moisture, rendering candies without absorptive gelatin, into a sticky, gooey mess shortly after (or even before) they harden. This should only be attempted with highly concentrated glycerin tinctures, and any hard candy made with even a small amount of tincture should still be consumed within the day.

edit - There are many fun, and 'healthy' options for glycerin tincture, too :)

I tried mine today to say fuck it and tried 5 drops...and nothing really happened *maybe* a slight buzz. I like using mine because I hate smoking and I would like to help my constant nausea. @badkittysmiles how can I make it more concentrated? I want to be able to take a few drops and start to feel it. Or should I reheat it and let it sit for a few more weeks? I am thinking I didn;t heat it enough. The color of the actual stuff is still somewhat clear...I didn't decarb either :/ SHould I do a small batch of green dragon and add it to it?

  14. Btw, those those drinks absoluelt yummy! Great job
