Would marijuana use impair nerve damage recovery?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by LegendOfZeledon, Aug 2, 2011.

  1. About two weeks ago I was struck by a stray bullet from a shooting. The bullet went through my arm while managing to destroy my artery and cause some nerve damage. Fortunately, the doctors were able to graft my arteries and nerves so I have regained partial sensation and movement in my right hand however, I am still unable to bend my index finger and thumb. I was curious as to whether marijuana would impede or increase the nerves rate of recovery.

  2. It actually should help! Cannabis helps nerve cells survive various "insults". This is more on brain tissue, but nerves and brain are part of the same system.

Besides these well-established neuromodulatory events, cannabinoids may control the survival/death decision of neurons . Thus, cannabinoids have been shown to protect neurons from toxic insults such as excitotoxicity, traumatic injury and ischaemia both in vitro and in vivo.

There is a whole section on "Neuroprotectant Properties" in my List - just click the first link in my sig to get them.

    Hope that helps!
