Does weed PREVENT lung cancer?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Totallydude, Jul 25, 2011.

1. hey there,
So we all know that inhaling any kind of smoke is probably bad for your lungs and we also know that if we smoke weed alot we are more likely to get colds and we cough more. Weed smoking is known to cause bronchitis and emphysema.. BUT apparently no one has EVER gotten lung cancer 'from' weed. Now how does that work? Non-smokers can get lung cancer can't they?? Weed has been known to prevent the growth of tumour cells... So, does weed make us impervious to lung cancer, and if not, how can we say that weed didn't cause it if we get it? Oh and could someone clear up this thing about weed causing/ stimulating hypocampus brain growth? Please feel free to share your 2cts... :smoke:

2. I'm too high for this Goddamn shit right now.

3. wait, what is lung cancer?

4. no it doesnt prevent it

but it does destroy it.

is that good enough for you government/doctors of the world?

5. How bout we don't share our two cents and we share some god damn evidence instead.

Cite your sources motherfuckers, we all know you're full of shit.

6. Do you have lung cancer? Must prevent it...

7. ?? There's no need for hostility... I'm no doctor for sure, but I have done a fair amount of research in my time and I think the general consensus is that weed causes short term damage to our lungs ( which can begin to clean themselves naturally when we give the herb a break ). In relation to lung cancer, if no weed smoker has ever got it ( which I find impossible to believe ) then if everyone toked up, would no one ever get lung cancer??

Dr. Tashkin started out as a anti-cannabis scientist, but after his study on cannabis and lung cancer, he found it had a slightly protective effect! Cannabis users got lung cancer less frequently than non-smokers! Dr. Tashkin, now supports legalization. This will give you the info on it.

Top anti-drug researcher changes his mind – says legalize marijuana « Patients for Medical Cannabis

And about the brain cells- here's some on that-

9. ^^ well thanks very much for that info, I would +rep you but I don't know how.. How about weed and colds, bronchitis etc.?

10. Watch "what if cannabis cured cancer" that's the ultimate documentary

11. When you are sick, being stoned makes you feel better- you ache less, it can bring down a fever, and so on (studies are available by clicking that first link in my sig). Vaporizing is better than smoking, though. ("Methods of Use- Vaporizers" section for the studies).

Now, a lot of you wonder about lung damage . We all know that tobacco messed up your lungs, but what about cannabis? :confused_2: WebMD has something to say about the subject-

Smoking Pot, Cigarettes Ups COPD Risk (news - 2009) (bad title, good article! )
Smoking Pot, Cigarettes Ups COPD Risk

When COPD was clinically confirmed though a diagnostic method known as spirometric testing:

• The incidence of COPD among participants who smoked cigarettes alone was 2.7 times higher than among nonsmokers.
• The incidence of COPD was 2.9 times higher among participants with a history of smoking both cigarettes and pot, even after controlling for other risk factors for the pulmonary disease.
• COPD risk among people who smoked marijuana, but not tobacco, was slightly higher than among nonsmokers, but the increase was not statistically significant.

If you guys want more actual info from mostly (got a few from FOX :p ) reliable sources. I dig PubMed and have put the MMJ studies in my "Granny's MMJ List", so you guys can learn the facts (and shoot down all the old myths).

So it may protect your lungs from cancer, according to the Tashkin study. It does NOT mess your lungs up like tobacco, according to WebMD. And it eases aches and pains according to numerous studies and personal experiences! :D

CANNABIS FTW! :hello:

Cannabis is a LOT more than what you think it is! EDUCATE YOURSELF! :yay:

12. I watched a documentary on youtube where a doctor said the risk of lung cancer was decreased one fold by those who smoke only cannabis.

13. I don't think cannabis smoke would actually have a positive impact on lung cancer, I've found only one study showing a 60% decrease in non-stem lung cancer cells, but the rest is all against this evidence. Check this article if interested: Medical-Marijuana-Effects-on-Lungs
