Forcing clone to hermie for seeds?

  1. Can you try and turn a female clone into a hermied plant and get seeds that will produce females? This would strictly be an attempt to preserve seeds of that strain if i am unable to keep the clones going for some reason.

  2. Yes u can. Read up on how seed banks produce fem seeds.

  3. yup, although I've never tried this, the seed companies make feminized seeds by taking a known female plant, stressing it to the point it hermies, then use that pollen from the male parts of the plant to pollinate the female part. at least, that's what Ive read

  4. In past I have tried hermie seeds from female stressed plants. I found a lot of time the new plant would be inclined to also herm.

  5. I would like 2 hear some more input on this myself

  6. you should learn the difference between a genetic hermaphrodite and a stressed related one.

cause making fem seeds is much more difficult they just stressing one clone.. it takes years to get one strain down, and fem'd properly with a less then 1 in 1000 chance of stamen production.

  7. I didnt think it would that easy i ll look around an c what i can find thanks man

  8. I am not looking to stress the female in hopes of getting all female seeds. I just want to know if i can get viable seeds that may have some potential females.

I read that after the plant hermies, it only creates pollen sacks? Then you have to collect the pollen for use on creating seeds from the next plant? Or will the hermied plant produce some pollen and some seeds?

  9. A Hermie will not produce a true male plant all of its off spring will be pure females or Hermie's.

Hermie's will self pollinate and produce seeds or you can take the pollen from a Hermie and use it to pollinate another female. These seeds will be female or Hermie no true males.

Creating fem seeds from a stressed Hermie takes a few generations your going to need to study a bit before you are ready for that.

    Good Luck

One method breeders use to create femmed seeds is to stress select budsites on an otherwise healthy and straightforward female, they don't hermie a whole plant. As Wharfrat said, making femmed seeds is a bit more tricky and complicated than that -- think about it, if it were that easy, then you'd see tutorials here on GC on how to hermie your plant on purpose. You don't. When someone says they have a hermie the resounding advice is to kill it. Why? Because hermies beget hermies not healthy seeds.

  11. Stressing specific budsites requires the use of chemicals that are a)expensive b)harmful to you and the plant and c) no definate results. True u will have to run a few generations but have some fun with the f1's that come of it and ditch and unstable herms. All you have to do is durring the first 3 weeks of flowering flip your lights on for and hour at random times durring the dark cycle. Ive seen them gro male flowers with in the female nugs as well and grow ome stalk of nothing but male flowers either way theres no way that a y chromazome can be produced so you get all x making genetically speaking all females. Ive seen people take two clones of differemt strains and do this right after rooting and they cross each other thats how chemdog makes his crosses
