Getting a inner forearm tattoo, stupid?

Discussion in 'Tattoo, Piercings and Body Art' started by lk250f, Jun 23, 2011.

  1. Well im interested in getting my first tattoo. Getting some form of a sun because i think its really an awesome part of life. Provides warmth, light, LIFE! But also symbolizes hope and holding on for the next day. But i want to get it on my inner forearm, up towards my elbow fold more. Only thing im worried about is how jobs may not appreciate this. Im studying telecommunications and want to either work for a news or production company or be a freelance videographer. My parents have always told me about tattoos and job interviews so now when i want to get one, im worried. Think it would be stupid to get a forearm tattoo? either going to get it on my chest or upper arm if i decide not to get it on my forearm. thanks

  2. I have six tattoos, and one COVERS my back, but none of mine are visible if I wear a T-shirt. Sadly, tattoos are not appreciated by our culture and having visible ink CAN limit you in many career paths. If you can make a living as a free lance videographer (a stringer? you really wanna do that?) then get all the ink you want where ever you want it. Unless your gonna be doing weddings, then no visible ink. It's complicated and confusing, see?

Oh, BTW, I know the local McDonalds won't even hire people with visible ink. WTF? It's McDonalds, not the Che Henry.......

  3. Very complicated. But being a freelance is what i least wanna do. I would be doing local commercials, weddings, etc. But i figure i would be able to easily cover up with a rolled up long sleeve shirt. I have a lot to think about.

  4. For me personally i think tatoos are a joke. I've read that a bunch of people just end of regretting as time progresses.

If you are concerned with how you will be perceived in the job world then don't get it...simple. If you do get then ofcourse you will be scrutinized, maybe not to your face but they will judge.

Don't get me wrong tatoos can look cool as shit, but the sun?? Not sure about that one.

Do what you desire. Just know..that shit is permanent. Ofcourse you can get it removed but then its like what the fuck was the point, just wasting money.

  5. Or you can become a drug dealer

  6. I like tattoos and I think it's utterly hilarious that some jobs won't hire you when you're well qualified for the job just because you got some ink. I am going to have some tattoos in the future. As long as the tattoo looks good and you don't get it just because you think it would look good with some ink with no meaning then go for it.

  7. Well, do this, decide whether or not you want the tat. Then mark that day on next years calender. If on that day you still want it, your arm will still there. That's the best advice I can give for not geting a tat you will later regret.

On another note, I know some photographers that do weddings and stuff. They are real good and they have built a reputation as being the areas premere shutterbugs for high end weddings and stuff. They are all tattooed up, and very artsy types of folks. No one minds their ink, because they deliver on the goods. Just something else to consider.

  8. This. Just be careful riding motorcycles, or doing construction for the next year. :D

  9. Thanks for the advice, im leaning more towards getting it on my chest. Still gonna think about it for a bit. Im still young so ill have plenty of time to get more if i want.

  10. tats are awesome and inner forearm is badass.

  11. I'd get it. If you think the inner arm is the best place, get it there. Don't settle.

Honestly, as of right now, yeah tattoos are looked down on by some employers. But what people forget to mention is that the amount of employers who care is becoming less and less and the amount of people with visible tattoos are becoming more and more.

Tattoos are becoming more culturally accepted and it's not going to stop any time soon I think.

Oh, and I have one where you're talking about (kinda, really close to it). If I'm worried about it I'll just wear a long sleeve shirt

  12. Agreed. These "counter-cultures" (tattoos, marijuana smokers, etc.) are becoming more prominent. 60 years ago, only a select group of Americans had tattoos, now everyone and their Mom has one.

My philosophy for tattoos is, if it truly means something to you, get it.

  13. i'm tat'd got 13 or so.. full chest, tat on my ribs, full back , almost a full sleeve . i love em and getting more and more. a lot of people have tats today . MN jobs dont really mind

  14. I have 6 tats, one is on my forearm so it's pretty visible, I also have 2 on my chest. I work in retail, so I hardly doubt it's going to be a problem for me. Like over half the people I work with also have tats, but as far as in the future I don't think it'll be a problem. As a girl it's easy to wear like a 3/4 sleeve shirt/blouse/whatever...I'm planning on getting a sleeve done eventually, but it'll end where my forearm tat is now, wouldn't wanna go any lower to my wrist. I love tats, and can't wait to get more..make sure to get something that means a lot to you and you won't regret it. GOODLUCK!

  15. It might sound dumb but I don't care if it would affect my job chances (I doubt it would though).

Because it has absolutely 0 relation to my ability to work. So, the only reason somebody would decide to use it as reasoning not to hire me is because they're shallow and dumb as fuck (unless the tattoo was clearly offensive, I could understand that). If that's how they are, cool, I wouldn't wanna work for them anyway.

Alternatively if they see a tattoo and hire me anyway, they understand it doesn't affect how well I can work. We'd be on the same page, so I think I'd likely enjoy working for them a lot more.

  16. im getting a tat on my entire forearm (boots, rifle, and helmet. tribute to past soldiers, as well as friends who have died in service) im gonna leave it an inch or two above my wrist so a long sleeve covers it up well.

  17. Tattoos are going to be frowned upon due to the negative stigma associated with them. I'm not one to judge, but it's true that more of the 'gangster' type people will have tattoo's, there is no denying that. So naturally if someone sees you for the first time and you have tattoo, they're view of you will be skewed even if you don't say a word.

  18. Yeah people are judged by how they look and dress

If someone looks like someone I know, my mind automatically makes me believe they are like them

  19. if u want it, get it. you have to have a "dont give a fuk" state of mind. like seriously, i havent heard of a confirmed case of a job not hiring someone because they have a tat. i just dont believe it. i mean, if they weren't gonna hire you in the first place, then u cant blame it on the tat. and if they wanna hire you, the tat shoudnt matter.

do what you want. its your life, dont let someone else's opinions effect your actions.

  20. i got 18 so far
    shut it i'm young:p
tattoos are great would never change one but yeah
if your thinking like this in the first place tattos arent for you
    my opinion
