Hello everyone, this is the start of my 2nd journal. I have set up a quaint little grow box and have some pictures to share today. Lets describe the setup.

Dimensions:
25 1/4" L x 17 1/8" W x 15 1/4" H

Pretty small, but fine for my needs.

I'm using 2 power strips with 2 bulbs in each strip lined horizontally across each side, the bulbs screw into sockets which plug directly into the strips. Each bulb is 18w 6500k CFL which should be more than enough to veg.

My one regret for this box so far is that I used a spray paint that put on a silver metal coating. It is pretty reflective. I'm concerned on how it will hold up with fumes in the future though.

These two holes are for elbow PVC piping for air circulation.

I'm using a PC power supply to power the fan externally, I used a paper clip in the 24 pin connector to trick it into powering on without a motherboard.

This is my new mother, Green Crack. It's clone only and apparently High Times is trying to change the name to "Dream Queen" to avoid the stigma of an illegal narcotic (crack). I could give two shits, I just want to smoke it!

Hey dude, looking great! Make sure you find a way to get a fan in the inside, not as an intake source, but just to keep the air moving. Past that, looking pretty tight! Are you going to use this box just for the mother and seedlings?

Yes, this is my mother/clone box. I'll have to scrounge for a fan, broke at the moment.

Transplanted clone into a 1gallon pot, used FoxFarm Ocean Floor for soil. The box leaks a fair amount of light, so I'll be lining it with something in the next couple of days. Still need a fan too ><

I used some windshield reflectors from walmart.

I had heard about that on some other threads around here, wasted 5 bucks on that stupid paint haha. I'll see how much they cost and probably pick some up.

Next time, get yourself an AC-DC 9v/12v adaptor, strip the wires, connect your fan onto that, so much easier to manage.

I thought plugging a PC fan directly into a power supply was pretty easy. If I go for a bigger indoor grow I may consider something along those lines.

I would say that its easy but when you can use your fans directly via the mains its easier and you can control them via timers etc, its a worthwhile and 20second job, dont forget the electrical tape! electric shocks = bad.

Photos!

Today is looking good, the 1 gallon pot I transplanted into is still moist, and not needing water yet. Thanks to the advice of Microgrower420, I mustered the courage to attempt LST (Low Stress Training), though he uses elastics, I'm going to a plant staple. Does anyone think 1gal pot is too big for a clone that was in a Styrofoam cup?

I tested the temperature and it stays about 76*F which is in the range it needs. I hope this thing grows up quickly so I can start taking cuttings, I'm excited for that process.

@ Bluetoyou - My girlfriend and I are in the process of building a second flowering box, this one will be used for vegetation.

@ Kilpoo - you can use any PSU you'd like as long as the adapter fits the fan. I was lucky enough that my friend had already converted the fan to a molar connection and it plugged directly into the existing cord.

What's the advantage of a psu if you can modify the fan to plug into a power strip?

I had a PSU and not a DC to AC converter, nor did I want to mess with splitting wires. Short answer, it's what was on hand.

Ok i have the rubbermaid tub, the lights cfl's, power strips, a CPU tower ( not sure what to do with the fan and power supply) it's my only fan. If I post a pic would you be able to tell me how to rig it? And if that the only fan does it really matter if it's intake or exaust?

And do you think an 8" clay pot is too big?

you'll most likely need to buy an adapter for your fan, they aren't wired to fit directly into a PSU. It's the "molex" adapter, use newegg.com or amazon. The fan should be exhaust if it's the only one, since it can suck air in from the breathing holes. The CPU tower can be used instead of a rubbermaid tub, but is limited in space obviously. the clay pot is probably fine in size, you'll want to do some LST though. Check the site for some guides on it, they helped me.

Edit: found a link to amazon in case you needed it. This fit my fan, it may not fit yours. Check before ordering.
