For the past seven hours, Senator Paul has been holding the Senate floor!
Can Rand Paul single-handedly cause the Patriot Act to lapse?
i wrote him off at first but man i love seeing unorthodox behavior in congress, i got a chubby when anthony weiner was yelling at everyone last year or so

  2. Yeah, I like Rand Paul, I mean just like Ron, its kinda hard to argue against the guy especially when he makes...oh whats the word. Sense.

  3. He is one of the few honorable politicians that will stand and fight for the Constitution. Did you see how Sen. Reid attacked him for saying that law enforcement should obtain a warrant before sifting through a citizens private records? Ridiculous. Rand Paul, the people of America are behind you!

  5. As much as I have doubt for Ron Paul winning 2012 I hope he does, I hope he gets his eight years, and in 2020 his son can take his spot. 16 years with the Pauls behind us and I feel the citizens might gain a voice again.

  6. what amendment did he object to?

    Good interview here:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdkvZFoqbWc]YouTube - Dennis Miller Interviews Rand Paul Republicans Trying To Block His Amendments To Patriot Act[/ame]

Rand was the only one to stand up to the status quo (aka democrats and republicans) and stand up for our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Liberty re: the USA PATRIOT Act.

Here are the votes...take a careful look at who voted for this awful piece of legislation:

The Patriot Act flippers - 2chambers - The Washington Post

On the Motion | U.S. Congress Votes Database - The Washington PostThe Washington Post

S 990 | U.S. Congress Votes Database - The Washington PostThe Washington Post

  10. Notice all the statists at the top of the list:

    - OpenCongress

This is a ranking of how often Republican Senators vote with a majority of the Senate Republican caucus.

  11. It's either a mistake, or he's trying to appeal to Obama supporters and look tough on terror.

    What an idiot.

  12. He's not his father, that's for sure.

  13. I wish he wasn't such a whiner.

  14. He's never triggered a second look from me. He's just...uninteresting.

In the context of the interview I think he's saying that you don't need the patriot act to go after suspected terrorists, you just need to provide probable cause for a search warrant, and that would include being foreigners attending violent speeches, and then you can detain them or deport them.

I'm not sure if violent speeches are protected under free speech... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg_v._Ohio#The_Decision

  16. Attending a speech that threatens violence or attempts to incite violence should not be considered probable cause for a search warrant regardless of whether they're a foreigner or not. Also, I don't think he used the term violent speeches.
