I did a search around the boards and couldn't really find much pertaining to F1. I considered putting this in the sports forum, but when I browsed it, I noticed motorsports didn't tend to get noticed. So I figured here would be a better place. If the mods feel it more appropriate to be in the sports forum, by all means, move it as needed.

Anyway, is anyone here into Formula 1? If so have you've been keeping up with the World Championship races?

To anyone interested, here is this year's schedule.

It's going to be a good year. Sebastian Vettel is relentless on the track. Winning 3 out of the 4 Gran Prix races this year already. Between him and Mark Webber, Team Redbull is just climbing in the ranks.

I love F1. Went to almost every US Grand Prix @ Indy. I was at the 2008 Singapore GP, first ever night race on the streets. Looking forward to Austin 2012!

I have been rooting for Vettel since his F1 debut @ Indy in 2007. Was really cool that he won the driver's championship last year - hope he repeats again this year.

Awesome. I've never got to attend a race. I imagine it's quite intense. I'm actually fairly new to the sport. I just started watching towards the end of the series last year. So I'm still getting accustomed to it and downloading any of the older races I can.

I'd like to say I'm rooting for Vettel as he's gracious, humble, and a terrific young racer, but I seem to always root for an underdog. Right now I've been routing for Team McLaren (Hamilton and Button).

Hamilton would probably be my 2nd favorite driver. :)

He's quite good and his win at China was pretty great. It's pretty crazy that a few years ago (5-6) everyone was talking about Schumacher, and now that I'm watching it he's doing terrible.

A lot of it is the car. Schumi retired for a while and came back. I would imagine though that he expected to win by now.

Championships: 7 (1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004)

Schumi is soo old. There's no way he will get close to winning these days.

With that said, Vettel is doing an amazing job, but I'm still a Hamilton fan.

Out of the F1 season tracks or in general?

Me being totally biased I'd say Singapore. Being there was incredible...surreal.

Really fun to watch on TV every year of course is Monaco...but not my overall favorite.

Honestly, a REALLY great track and fun to watch (can't even imagine racing on it) - the drivers claim it to be one of their favorites as well is Spa, Belgium. I'd have to go with that one...for TOP of the list - bias aside. :)

Here they are:

Singapore:

Neither of the above leave any room for error...

Spa:

I thought these pics were kind of cool. The Singapore GP is raced in downtown Singapore, on and thru the city streets. Kimi Räikkönen of Ferrari wrecked near where I was standing. I snapped some pics and some of him sitting at the bus stop, waiting for a ride. lol

Just for old time's sake, not like they are ever coming back to Indy (Austin TX for 2012 tho!), a video I shot of a lap from 2007 (last year in United States until 2012 - Austin!):

Yes. Just F1, but if you have any contributions of awesome tracks, feel free to post those as well.

@MJU1983
Awesome post! +rep

I haven't gotten a chance to see any of those tracks except for the overhead diagrams. All of them looked pretty sick. Since I only caught the tail end of last season and the few races we've had this season, I've seen 7 or 8 tracks only. I did like Abu Dhabi and Suzuka though. Maybe after seeing Spa, Singapore, and Monaco I might have a new favorite. Either that or I'll be entirely bias and pick the Nurburgring because it's in Germany. :smoke:

Also, I loved the photos man. I laughed seeing him sit there at a bus stop.

Goosebumps should result from watching this video.

Probably the best representation of F1 V10 sounds I've heard on video. You can really hear the traction control ignition retard coming out of the corners. Not to mention the Ferrari F2004 probably being the greatest F1 car ever produced.

I can still remember 2004, a mile from the track and hearing those sweet V10s screaming down the straight. Sent chills up my spine. ~19,000 rev limit!

Here is the actual car, it's sitting in the Ferrari Store in Rome, Italy - I took this last fall:

Have you played F1 2010? I got it yesterday and have been playing it on an off this morning. It makes waiting for races a little more bearable and it's pretty fun. It was a lot harder than I was expecting though. I never figured I'd be getting all of these penalties that would cost me spots. I finished a Gran Prix in second, however, do to seven seconds worth of penalties (drafting and corner cutting) I placed sixth.

Nice! I was just thinking about posting about the F1 Season on here the other day, haha. I'm also rooting for Vettel! Favorite track is the Interlagos in Brazil, can't wait for that, we'll see if Vettel will take home the win on that track like last year.

I don't really have a set out favorite track, guess I don't watch enough of it, but I'd have to say somewhere between Leguna Seca (mostly for that dip) and of course the wonderful Nurburgring. Typical popular tracks, but I like them.

As for F1 2010, how is that? What do you play it on? And do you use a wheel/pedal set up?

I'm playing it on PC and using just my keyboard, which is a little difficult. I have a wheel and pedal set up, but it's pretty much junk. One of those bargain finds that you hope will be good enough, but in the end, you just regret paying for. I'd like to get one of the nice logitech ones with all three pedals and an accurate shifter. I think it would make the experience for the game and all other racing games for that matter, much better.

The game itself, I think is pretty well made. Granted, I've said I don't know too much about F1 as of yet, but from the little I know, I'd wager it's fairly accurate (in as much sense as a game can be). Speeds, shifting, cornering, utilizing specific tires, needing to go into the pit stop, and even to the point where your engine will start running hot and you'll see decreases in your lap times are all pretty prevalent in the game. However, you can choose to not race a full Gran Prix. You can choose anywhere from only racing 1 lap to doing the full 58. Since the game is fairly accurate does indeed last roughly an hour and a half depending on the track.

I'd say if you can find it for a decent price, it would definitely be worth it. Maybe not on the PC unless you have a pretty decent rig. I do, and even I experienced some trouble with it. It would not only make my graphics card heat up considerably more than any other game played on it, but I would lag out when car congestion would build up or when you'd get into an area with heavy textures.
