Man, I'm really trying to keep my expectations in check for this reunion. The Cold Vein, imo, is the greatest album in the history of music, no exaggeration. If I could only have one album to listen to for the rest of my life that would be it and the decision wouldn't be that hard. I feel like I can't expect them to come back 12 years later and top that effort, but if anyone could do it it's the Ox. Any word on whether or not El-P will be on the boards? His production made The Cold Vein from a great album into what it was. Still never heard beats like that since, not even from El-P himself.
They're looking to work with a wide array of producers for this release like Bill Cosmiq, Madlib, Melodious Monk and more. I'm looking forward to seeing Cannibal Ox's evolution as artists. Imo it's better to have a solid release rather than aim to top what's already been done. Vordul has really evolved as an MC, and it'll be interesting to see what Cannibal Ox can pull off independently with IGC. Over the years, Vast Aire and El-P have had an ongoing beef, so El-P no longer works with Cannibal Ox as a unit. However, El-P did produce "Keep Living" off Vordul's 2008 album, Megagraphitti. Sick track. That's a good point, why try to top the Cold Vein when it was already perfect, try something new. Can O with Madlib sounds insane, can't wait to hear it. It will defenitely be tight to hear them over a diverse set of producers, as good as El-P's trippy ass soundscapes were. I'd like to see 9th Wonder get a production spot, I think they would make dope music together.
Right, they know what good music sounds like, that's why I'm copping the album the day it drops, and the maxi single as well. 9th and Cannibal Ox would be insane. I'm looking forward to see how they enlist for this.
