  1. Anyone grown grapes? I've got a blind dog's chance of getting this right atm and can't find much reliable info online so far.

I inherited 3 vine cuttings a year ago and they're starting to do their thang. Want me some vino so need me some advice. :)

    I need wires I think? :confused_2:
    Do they like food?
Do i cut them back every year or do they stay big?
Can I squidge them with mah toes? :metal:
When will my wine be ready? :p

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

  2. my mom used to grow them when i was a kid.. more for the leaves than the grapes (although the grapes were pretty tasty)

you need lotsa sun for good wine making grapes.. and yeagh you have to cut them back in the winter

good info here.. Growing Grapes is for everyone

Grape leaves are great for making dolmas
    Here's the Wiki page

Dolma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dolma is a family of stuffed vegetable dishes in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire and surrounding regions such as Russia, Iran and the Caucasus and Central and South Asia. Perhaps the best-known is the grape-leaf dolma. Common vegetables to stuff include zucchini, eggplant, tomato and pepper. The stuffing may or may not include meat. Meat dolma are generally served warm, often with sauce; meatless ones are generally served cold, though meatless dolma are eaten both ways in Iran. Both are often eaten with yogurt.

    And here's a vegetarian recipe

I can't imagine how good dolmas would taste with fresh grape leaves. Enjoy!

    :)

  8. They taste good
But the leaves need to be prepared first

My grandmother is Turkish and makes me them with stuffed peppers
In a spicy tomatto sauce. And yougurt on the side ;)

  9. Hey free

My mum grew grapes for years on a trellis and over and arch leading into the garden...

My mum is not a big feeder and she got lost of grapes every year after the first year or two...

If you don't cut them back they will get beyond huge...fine if you have the room...look for at least a few feet growth a year...

You like my nice scientific answers? :p

Always had a hard time getting to the grapes on time as birds, squirrels, and especially hornets loves them...just a warning...;)

They were Freedom friendly answers man, just what I needed. :smoke: What about the stomping business? Did yo momma ever stomp grapes with her toes? :D

birds and hornets will be eaten by my cats, hornets mmm, aren't they those big mo fo's that look like mega-wasps? How can I make them die? :(

    Best. Post. Ever.

Who'da thunk this thread would become so purply diverse? :D

  12. Pretty sure she didn't get any the first year...could just be her though...;)

Honestly...she started them about 20 years ago, so my senile brain may be wrong...:p

Nah...no stomping, but the mental picture is making me laugh...

She cooked them...somehow...and made the worlds best grape juice...the whole process is a mystery to me...she made jelly with them also...

Hornets and wasps are similar...most people don't differentiate between them...hornets are generally meaner though...

  13. Dude, don't plant seeds of hope in my teeny tiny brain and then not provide the info! :poke: Fuckit, just give me your mom's number and i'll sort it out with her. :p;)

I need to get a pet that'll eat them, I bet they wouldn't fuck with a big snake for instance. :devious:

  14. See what happens when I try to answer things without really knowing the answer...:p

My beagle used to try to eat hornets...used to get then stuck in her jowls and they'd sting the crap outta her lips...:(

  15. That sucks, but we gotta look at the bigger picture here, :p my grapes are in danger!

Where do I get me a beagle. :poke:
