Wow, found this grow journal of someones DJ Short's Blueberry that ended up having half albino genetics. Now normally, an albino plant dies since it lacks the chlorophyll necessary for photosynthesis to occur, so the plant can't make food for itself. Since half the plant (literally) had chlorophyll present, photosynthesis occurred causing the plant to look truly fantastic. It's pretty rare apparently. About to get a clone of one of these beauties under an LED system that will allow a great light v. heat output ratio.

One mans treasure, I suppose... I almost always dump variegated canna plants :)

They serve the same purpose as those plants in ornamental gardens; they look pretty. Besides that, they have no other use or value. While they can sometimes be equal in quality, they are still low yielders all across the board, versus their fully-green counterparts.. it's really not as rare an occurrence as you'd think, and the genetics being sold are ornamentals, or novelties, and should be treated as such. Many of the ornamental variegated plants we have today began as mutants, and were bred for their appearance, with the breeders knowing full-well that these mutant plants would otherwise be much weaker and inferior to their 'normal' variations, producing fewer, smaller and often less palatable fruits. Particularly if the discoloration continues not only in the foliage, but extends to the developing flowers, as well. Simply put, when bleached (whether by genetics or light), the bud is lacking in key elements which you're expecting to taste, and experience.

Cannabis does not respond differently, or in any special or beneficial way to variegation. It responds to inferior cell structure/reproduction and deformity the same way most other plants do; by performing poorly. People have been giving bleached bud neat names, and mysterious back stories, for years, in order to sell a product they otherwise would have to toss in the bin. 'Subtle' is how people describe the flavor in a more kindly tone, but flavorless, is how I put it. It's been done on a small scale by dealers, and now, apparently they're preying on the lack of horticultural knowledge of the majority of canna-enthusiasts on a mainstream level, and taking advantage of this general lack of information on a much larger scale.

So long as you know what you're in for, it's still a great idea; ornamental canna's are loads of fun, and there's nothing wrong with pursuing the hobby that way :) If you're going for yield or quality though, it's probably best to find healthier, non-variegated clones/seed-stock. It definitely looks neat, but most people try bleached herb once, only to find they prefer healthier plant matter. Good luck!

  4. fucking outrageous

  5. if your plant is albino, does that mean it can suck up other colors in the water like a carnation?

  6. Holy shit look at those buds lol. I want some.

  7. WOW! I don't care how they smoke -- I'd pay a little extra just for the looks.

  8. How sweet would it be to look at a bowl of weed you just packed up - and its fucking snow white!! This is great:smoke::smoke:

  9. thats wild looking but i think ill stick with a bowl full of green instead

  10. Common trait in many of Dj's lines...lots of other mutants (crinkled leaves are another common one) as well, and they're almost always treasured and hoarded to do outcrosses with...without a doubt some of the smoothest smoke you'll ever have because of the complete lack of chlorophyll...

  11. ...jeeez...any plant can take in colored water...and have it's color changed...

  12. nice find OP
