Some more food for thought, little boy killed over 200,000 people in a span of 2 years and its the smallest nuclear weapon used, its not on even listed on this chart because I guess its blast yield wasn't worth mentioning in comparison to these other ones.
Unfortunately not every country abides by the geneva convention though, and threats are still made today of nuclear attack. (iraq and israel most notably)
I know and see that every now and then, we'll hear of nuclear bomb threats. The U.N. still has the final day and if a country goes against them, they'll figure out a way to stop the threat no matter what the cost.
I feel there will still be a day when the threat will slip past the U.N., and a world-wide epidemic will transpire. Hopefully it won't happen, but you cannot stop every single thing from happening.
While setting off nukes isn't good.. with all the man made nuclear activity, we only account for about 20% of the daily radiation we are belted with and the majority of that comes from sources that weren't nuclear tests, bombs, or accidents. Nuclear activity isn't going to destroy the world within 100 years.. well, 96 years since it's been 4 years since you said that. You only really need to be fearful of nuclear material if you're directly exposed to it.. and that's why those tests are done in the middle of nowhere. Hell, couple billion years ago uranium deposits in Africa underwent natural reactions and were spewing out radiation for hundreds of thousands of years. Even if we set off all our nuclear material in one spot, the amount of radiation it gives off won't surpass that amount of natural radiation we are exposed to. That said, dropping a nuclear bomb.. or any bomb is a disgusting, cowardly move. Since war won't go away, I wish is would at least revert back to the old school ways. Up close and personal with a sword or axe..
Things'll get real interesting when insane religious fanatics (and the states they eventually end up controlling) finally acquire the "allahu akbar" bomb. Baaalaammmm!
