Anyone have tinnitus (ringing ears 24/7)?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by coachz, Apr 10, 2011.

  1. I am not a patient, but I was wondering if anyone else suffers from constant ringing in their ears? I have had the condition for about 7 years. At first it really sucked, then I got used to it, and now it's starting to make a comeback.
Any words of advice on stuff that has helped you?

  2. I can only hear it when it's at night and it's very quiet, but i know what you're talking about. Can you get a medical card for tinnitus?
As for advice, mine is mild so it doesn't bother me, just have music on and shit and ignore it man haha. happy tokinn

  3. Cannabis seems to make this even worse atleast for me.

  4. Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I am kind of in the same boat as you, where it's pretty mild and I only notice it at night. Music is nice to have, but it can also make it worse in the long run, having headphones in the whole time. I think I'm just in a phase where it's a little bit worse right now.
Don't know how weed affects it, cause I just started recently. They say that weed makes it worse, but idk if that's propaganda or actually scientific.
Let me know if you all find facts, or have personal experiences. Thanks!

  5. could be multiple factors causing it, possibly too much sodium? Go a few days with low sodium intake, see how that goes

  6. I actually suffer from what they call sudden hearing loss and literally have my left ear ringing 24/7. Weed actually does help make it better but I think the only reason is because it helps me focus on tasks instead of letting my mind wander, eventually back to the ringing.

You might want to go get a hearing test because the ringing I hear is the absense of sound my ear should be receiving.

  7. Isn't that what tinnitus is, though, the absence of sound the ear should be receiving, rather than the actual ringing? The ringing is the product of the absence of sound, right? I think that's how it was explained to me, but that was a few years ago when I was in college.

There are over-the-counter remedies for tinnitus. I know you can find them in certain health food stores, but places like WalMart and Walgreens sell them too.

  8. I have it. Weed doesnt help, but it doesnt really make it worse either.

Get your ears cleaned by an ear doctor, I did, and it got a lot better. I just got used to it.

  9. I have ringing 24/7 since my Internal Medicine doctor changed the medication for my GERD. It is a side effect of the medication. If you are on any type of medication you might want to see if that is a side effect from it and discuss it with your doctor to see if there is an alternative.

  10. I do, and my father does, both of us smoke and we agree that it seems to help, probably just too absentminded to notice it when high

  11. Yeah I was under the impression that tinnitus is the sound created from an absence of sound but I wasnt 100% sure thats the only thing that causes it, looks like duckie has it from a medication side effect.

  12. Meditation can also help.

  13. I used to have that ringing too. It went away after a small while when I stopped using my ipod and all mp 3 players, reduced the volume at which I listen to volume on my pc, car, radio, tv, etc by about 1/2. I would listen to my ipod at about 1/2 way, now I listen to it at 1/4th of the max volume. Oh, and I also wear a lot of ear protection when it comes to going to concerts and when I play at my drum shows as well as just drumming at home on both my acoustic and electric kit!:)

  14. Sweet dude, glad to hear that was a helpful method for you. I usually make sure I have my ipod on low, but I do listen to it a lot lately. Maybe cutting back a little could help. I've had tinnitus for several years now so I'm pretty sure it's permanent, but I know other things have helped in the past; limit loud noises, less caffeine, exercising, relaxing, humidifiers, etc. I did try herbal pills back when it first began, but I feel like they didn't do enough to warrant their purchase, if they did anything at all.
I've also heard of a therapy treatment where you train your brain to ignore the noise. I read William Shatner (no joke) got tinnitus from an explosion on the set of Star Trek, and it was so bad it almost led him to suicide. Apparently he had success with this treatment. If it works for Captain Kirk, well then . . .

  15. This may help..?:)

  16. I got it, going on 19 years. Far beyond irritating, I label it as madness because that is exactly what it is. A fate some would say is worse then death (or deaf).
Weed helps to make it less ... on my mind. But other then that, This shit sucks beyond measure.
