I just started this grow 2 weeks ago. I decided to create a journal so that I could get input and advice from the other city members. Here are the details:

Grow room is a closet about 3x3x10. Walls are matte white.
Light - 1 150 W CFL (running 18/6)
Hydrofarm Emily's Garden hydroponic system
Seeds - 2 FMS Easy bud, 2 South African Durban X Skunk #1 from seedsdirect
Nutes - General Hydroponics Flora Gro, Micro Gro and Flora Bloom (Haven't used yet, but I should probably start soon)

That's the basics, here are some pics...

Pic of the healthiest pant...

This one looks a little shrivled, but I think it is going to be OK....

Posted Image

I think this one looks pretty good...

Posted Image

First leaf growth looked good, second leaves were shrivled from the start. Could be the strain...

Posted Image

Let me know if anyone has any advice for me. Especially on the "shrivled plants"

I have a fan that sits up on a shelf to move some air. Also, I leave the door open sometimes to share some CO2 with the plants. Fortunatley for me, I am not a kiddie and I don't live with my parents, and my wife doesn't mind (even though she has never smoked), so stealth is not really much of an issue.

Most top growers here have there own house too,so i see what ya saying :)

You may want to put a small breeze on you little 1's to have a stronger stem..

Should I point it directly at them?

No,
you just wan to see them move just a little but not much, try to point it at the wall so you make the breeze wrap around you plants, place the fan at the door when you have it open so you get fresh air to you plants..
also you want to have the temp from 78 to 80 between the top of plant to the bottom of light for best results...other than that you look like your on the right track......

Couple of questions for anyone with experience:

1) When should I start the nutes?

2) Should I be worried about the two plants that look a little "shrivled"?

Thanks.

Is this normal? This plant seems to be doing awesome, but it is growing more sideways than upwards. Should I be concerned? It is almost 3 weeks old and is maybe 3 inches tall.

yes you should have already had nutes in your resouvour.

Use a 30% solution and follow the directions of your nutes for seedlings/clones/cuttings.

Usually its .25ml of each per Litre of water.

So for a 3lt resouvour... Mix one litre with .25ml of each the 3 nute solutions and the other 2 litres ph balanced water, this will give you the 30% solution.

When its a little more grown up, bump up the solution as per nute directions (usually .5ml per Litre and use 60% solution, so mix 2 litres with the solution, so total of 1ml of each and add one litre of ph balanced water)

after a week or 2 when you change the solution again go ahead and use the 100% solution, so mix the 1ml for each litre of water.

Follow same procedure for Flowering but use 100% solution all the time for that.

Hope this helps, everything i wrote above is based on a 3 litre resouvour.

See what I am talking about, you are all over the place. :)

Thanks for the Nute advice. Next time I drain and refill I will use the nutes. half strength.

Sorry to be an idiot, but what is FIM?

OK, I looked up FIM...

Acronym for “F*** I Missed!? A variant of the topping technique, where only a portion of the growth tip is removed, causing an increase in resulting cola sites.

Damn, I love this site.

Not sure that I know how to do it, but I am sure that I can find out here.

So I literally just chop the top off?

I don't want to f anything up, I am counting on these plants. You see, I am totally dry (just moved to a new area and I think it is way to risky for me to just walk down the street and ask people) until these plants mature, so I really need them to be healthy.

After a lot of reading, I have decided not to FIM or top. I just don't think that I have enough experience or space, so I am just going to let them grow and hope for the best. I may eventually do some LST, but I am not sure. I will post some pics from weeks 3 shortly. Plants are looking healthy, and two are very bushy. Can't wait to start flowering, but I am only at 4 inches after 3 weeks of growth.

Here are some new pics. I just added 2 60w CFL's to the left and front of the grow box. The grow is about 3 weeks old now...

A pic of all 4 plants:

The healthiest pant.
Posted Image

The healthiest plabt and the formerly "wrinkled" plant side by side. The healthiest pant is very wide and bushy while the "wrinkled" plant is taller and lanky.

I wish that I could get this baby to grow taller. Right now it is about 4 inches and bushy as hell. I guess it isn't a bad thing though. :)

The two healthiest plants from the side. I know that the thermometer says 37% RH right now, but it goes back up to 70-80% when I have the door closed.

Posted Image

This was the "wrinkled" plant. It seems to be holding it's own now.

This one show the 2 small (60w each) CFL's in their regular position.

Plant will take up more vertical space if you dont fim or top.... you need to fim and or top to allow vertical growth to slow while allowing side growth (new branches) to form, or pretty much the bottom of your plant will be useless in the end.

But its your choice, if you dont that lights gonna have to be moving up and up and up and up and up :)

ps its looking very very good so far... All fan leaves but hey :) you dont wanna fim :)

Just so you know, fan leaves dont make bud sites, branches do.
