Hash with Moldy Trim

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by flamsnfills, Feb 24, 2011.

  1. So after reading old threads for about an hour, i am still undecided. I got a batch of trimming from a friend, and ended up leaving it for about a day and a half. it was wet, and grew some mold. I said fuck it, and made bubble hash with it anyway. I removed the first bag with all the plant matter, waited a while to see if anything floated to the top. Nothing did, and I got some good looking product, but I'm still worried about mold spores.
Anybody done this before or have any knowledge?

  2. No experience with this but I would expect the mold is still somewhere. You could do some research to see if you could find out the size of mold spores and determine if they are larger than your bag/filter micron size. Also you could look at the end product under a microscope. Your product should be a mass of trichomes and if mold is there you could probably see it.

the mold will filter out mostly with the waters and if you smoke the hash it will kill the residuals, but may not be good for you if you are sensitive to the spores. very little will be in the hash as the spores suspend and the trics sink and gather. ive not done it myself i pitch out anything ugly its just not worth the risk to keep around. cryogenics dont kill but preserve spore so the freezer is of no avail but will prevent mildews and mold from messing up a sack of sugar-leaf. store anything questionable away from your grow and dont smoke anything with potentially live spores around your grow and if youve handled it be sure to change clothes and perhaps even shower before entering your grow. i may sound neurotic but a pound of cure is costly and sometimes hard to find or may not exist at all! ive heard of many to make moldy stuff into hash so i cant imagine that its deadly or terribly toxic to most of us. -D-

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but i've heard making qwiso hash with it will kill the mold in the isopropyl.

  5. You can make BHO with moldy weed. The butane will kill the mold spores and not extract any. I do not know about the other methods, but I think I remember reading that BHO was the only safe way to handle moldy weed. I could be wrong though.

  6. epic bump to see if you will expand on this?

Im depressingly expecting a moldy harvest in a few weeks due to ridic rain this year! Ive already killed 2 cola tops that were black with mold. Spot a few black spots every day i check my plant. Hoping I even make it to harvest. Was planning to ISO hash it and hope iso kills mold...wouldnt mind BHO'ing since It may be a few ounces.

Whats the verdict, ISO, BHO, or just Bubble bag it like OP?

  7. Lol you will be pulling those spores etc.

Only way to do it safely is to put it through 0.1u syringe filters. That's a lot to do for something that's probably gonna come out shitty. Do yourself a favor and Pass on it

  8. I believe qwiso is the only practical solution. It kills almost everything it comes in contact with, the germs, bacteria, mold, etc. It worked for me when I had a little over 4 grams of my 4/20 jar mold over.

4/20 jar - where you store a bud or two from every bag you buy and smoke it on 4/20. I suggest you get one started, nothing like opening a jar of 20 different strains on the best day of the year. Just burp it if the weed is moist.

  9. Or just continue advocating people make moldy hash... yeah that's great -_-

  10. Yea seriously! what a joke! DO NOT SMOKE MOLDY WEED/Concentrates/Hash/Keif/edibles. I used a pound of slightly molded bud with qwiso and after smoking the results for a week I ended up in the ER with a slightly collapsed lung. Danger danger danger.
