I need help from ya'll! I'm trying to burn this 'tape to just laid back, cruisin' music. I can't think of a large enough catalog of what I want to hear to do it, so I need YOUR help. The issue? I don't want the "getting high" laid back feel, more of a "summer jam" type feel. Here's what I've got so far (if you've got extra time, peep one or two of them so you know what I mean) Rock City - Listenin' To Tupac Mike Posner - Wonderwall (Feat. Big K.R.I.T) XV - Swervin Los - Fast Lane (probably my favorite on it so far) Z-Ro - Drop the Top Ya Boy - We Run LA Tory Lanez - Happy Hour (Feat. Kid Ink) Bow Wow - Aston Martin Music Young Ca$h / Joey Galaxy - Choose Me I know, it's quite a variety. I'm just trying to be really picky about the playlist. I'm envisioning summer livin', droppin' the top and closing your eyes and jamming (obviously not literally doing it). Just something that the instant you turn it on, you start jammin' any ideas, everyone? If not, no worries. (BTW: haven't been active on this forum for years, so if anyone was still around in 2010 when I was active: hi!)

Spitta Portrait.... [/quote] That design is dope man. Seriously I'd buy that shit now if possible haha.
Thanks brother, I appreciate your words. Here is a wonderful write up on the current state of WU TANG, and how their 88 years album is really produced by a man named CilvaRingz, not RZA http://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/2y0mwl/the_truth_behind_the_new_wutang_album/
I encourage all drake haters to listen to his new album... legit changed my view on the man with 1 "album" (mixtape)... very very good release by Drake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfIsscatymk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmqkZtKHBZM really though, there is no reason to hate on this album. Unless you are one of those guys who just hates on anything that isn't made in some dudes moms basement, in which case your opinion is worth nothing anyways.
i just felt like it was really well put together... samples and productions were on point for usre... from the genuine so anxious sample on the end of Legend, to the way he threw back to Erykah Badu on 6Man, or the way he chopped this small time dudes song for the jungle beat.. plus all the shit he says on you & the 6. its just really cohesive
Here ye here ye hiphoproundtable... what say you guys on this topic?... I think freddie gibbs is gonna go down as the GOAT, whatever that means, by the time hes done with it all. He just possess and utilizes every "goat-like" feature imaginable. I could post videos of gibbs excelling in all aspects people tout the greats for days; story telling, lyrics, flow, beat selection, classic projects, hood anthems, singles, beefs, etc etc etc. Personally I think Kanye is the best thing to ever happen to hip hop, but to me he has eclipsed the title of "hip hop artist" or "rapper", so I dont consider him comparable to a lot of rappers / artists out. Hes just a musician at this point. I dont see freddie G going that route though.. he'll stay in the hip hop/rap genre until he retires Like.. at the end of the day you can hold your nostalgic allegiance to guys like and biggie, beastie boys, jay z, etc, as long as you want, but to me those guys are mostly just pioneers of their crafts. You wouldn't want Bart Starr to be throwing balls to jordy nelson and randall cobb, you want aaron rodgers or tom brady because they are the best of all times. Just like you wouldn't compare lebron or kobe or jordan to any of the oldschool basketball players; because at that point in NBA history basketball was just taken to a whole other level of skill and innovation. You respect your elders but you have to recognize that the movers and shakers of the rap game have arrived and taken the genre to a place it was never imagined.. while still paying homage to the old guys. To be honest Pac is probably the only oldschool artist who is capable of being compared to the new era of top tier rappers... right? Like nas obviously did his ting on illmatic and in the early 00's but I mean.. what have you done for me lately? He fell of pretty hard.. and pac MAY have done the same thing had he had a longer career, but what pac gave us was consistent and comparable to a lot of the bests out right now. Besides Pac, gibbs is the only artist I've witnessed who can, on a consistent basis put such emotion into his songs... and im talking like murda murda shit.. like you are listening to it and not sure if its even legal its that dark n gritty. Gibbs fans and pac fans know what im talking about.. "Murda on my mind" is an example of that. J cole and kendrick have given that type of emotion from time to time, kdot more-so than cole. Im a huge gibbs fan, but I always try my best to look at things from a non-biased point of view.. I'm struggling to find anything negative about gibbs' music career. Maybe someone can point something out to me that I'm missing? Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOJGDI8Lpf4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KutJVgD5l0A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj39POBr-OU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0y0jpGfnSw I'm open to discussion from anyone on this topic
All the things you think about Gibbs, I think about Jon Connor. He's on par with, if not above, any rapper in any aspect of rap. Except beef I guess, but nobody's dumb enough to go at him. I'll wait for him to put out his Aftermath debut until I start touting him as the GOAT though.
I dabbled with some jon connor back in like... 2010 or 2011 or so maybe, i think he had a song or two with Los... maybe. I dont think he really has had as much success, yet, as freddie gibbs has though. Like your average hip hop listener probably has only heard the name jon connor unless they actively sought him out.. I think he has yet to achieve his real first "mainstream" success, like gibbs had with Pinata.. i could be wrong however. I have a friend whos told me to check him out a few times, I could see him becoming a house hold name but I don't think hes quite there yet. The potential is there though. Im gonna download his 2014 mixtapes... what else are his best releases? IIRC the blue album was a highly rated release, no?
His most recent installments of his Best In The World series are tributes to biggie and Kanye. I can't think of what the biggie one is called. But the Kanye one is like the late registration of a college dropout who had a dark twisted fantasy of 808s and heartbreak. The People's Rapper LP and the Blue Album are probably his most highly regarded works, although my favorite is Unconscious State, that's all original production and I think he put more work on that one than the others, he's got a gibbs feature on that as well. Other dope projects are salvation, season 2, jon connor as Vinnie chase, but if you fucked with him back in 2012 you've probably heard at least parts of though. For me he's got it all; flow, lyrics, punchlines, toughness. He's not as gritty as gibbs, but he's still as street and authentic as it gets, growing up in flint which is consistently like top 3 for highest crime rate in the country, his streetness I guess comes off as more hood swagger I guess than gritty and grimy
