Micro sized bugs (not mites) on trichomes, stunted plant growth, larvae in rock wool

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by brightgreen, Feb 1, 2011.

  1. The picture i have is pretty bad, but its the best my old camera can do through the microscope lens lol.

The bugs look kind of like fleas to me, with heads the color of amber trichomes and clear boddies. They all are perched on top of the trich's, and are either dead or are very good at pretending to be cause i was poking them and none moved lol.

I suspect that they are the reason my one month vegged Lemon and White Widow are only about a foot and a half tall.

I also have two hot shot pest strips inside my 8'x8' room, and I think this is why they are all only on the bottoms of the plants and seem dead. Possibly unaffected by the strip during larval stage and then were killed when they tried to come up the plant?

I also have micro-sized white larvae crawling around the tops of my covered rock wool. The plants I have in 4" rock wool set on top of big mama blocks all have these in their 4" blocks. when i lift up the black plastic cover over the rock wool that i have to prevent algea, I can clearly see around 15 white dots. The dots are so small that i have to use a jewel glass to see that they're moving, and they kind of look like clear versions of those rollie-pollie bugs that curl up into a ball when you touch them lol.

I was wondering what these bugs are and what i can do to get rid of them. I recently got over a mite infestation that really hurt my last harvest. I used hot shot strips and they effectively killed all the mites and prevented any further spread or resurgence, and I am confused as to why these bugs are able to survive.

Any and all help is appreciated, and i will try to get more/better pics up soon.

  2. IDK but you should put a lady bug on there and see if it eats them!

  3. I'd let the rockwool go bone dry if you can and then check again. :)
As for the things on the trichomes, I dunno, they look weeeird! xD

  4. I tried watering with some peroxide and it seemed to slow down the larvae in the rock wool. Maybe i should get some neem?

  5. i had these same bugs crawling all over my seedlings i raised the rh up to 70% for a week seem'd to get rid of them goodluck

  6. possibly Cyclamen mites they look very similar to the pics i found on google

  7. Cant really go wrong with the neem oil..............xtra insurance against the mites return as well.

  8. Bump... NOBODY has seen this organism before? I have the same exact thing all over my trichomes on my two dutch treats and im about a week from harvest.. They seem to love feeding off the trichs and multiplying but they don't touch the plant matter itself or leave any residue or tracks or eat anything else. They literally just sit on top of the trichs and don't move. Don't seem to have legs, just hairs coming from its body. Someone has got to know what this is.. Fungus? Bacteria? Bug? How to get rid of it? Harms? I need some professional advice! I don't want this organism sticking around forever! I would post pics but they are identical to the pics shown above at the start of the thread, i confirmed it through a 100x scope. Please, all advice is appreciated.:(
