Mother plant VS continous cloning?

  1. Just wondering if the genetics of a plant get weaker as you run a continuous cloning cycle. Basically rather then having a mother plant, I just cut clones from my plants in veg before they go into bloom. So after so many cycles, the plants are all a copy of a copy of a copy etc...rather than being just a copy from the mother. I haven't seen any adverse affects of this method but it seems like over a long enough time period you could???

  2. Some say yes, some say No. Could be just worth saying screw it and just do it for yourself.

I would say, It doesn't matter. With these Clone only strains, being around for so long and all.

IDK and am interested as well. Someone before metioned something about a Jack being clone of clone for 5 years. I am curious about 30 years, but in reality, Who does that.

It would be cool to gift it off and then get it back 10 years later and it is just like you remembered it.

  3. The term "mother plant" we use for talking about a plant that has had clones taken from it, is just that, a term. they are really not mothers. A mother occurs when you pollenate a female and she produces seeds. Another misnomer is calling successive clones taken from one "mother" plant as "generations" of clones. There are no generations when speaking of clones. A clone is a clone no matter when it is taken. Myself and many others have clones that are over 20 years old and they are still the same plants as they were 20 years ago because they are a clone of that plant. Its still the same if you take the clone from a "mother" or from a clone of a clone in veg thats only 12" tall. They are all the same plant........forever if you want.

  4. i agree with briar, in theory, there is no reason for the genetics to lessen, or "weaken" IMO.

you taking a genetically identical example, and growing that, the only factors are external factors, such as light, disease, mites, heat, temp, etc etc....

now if you take a cutting from a "weak" plant, then I can see possible problems in the future... but its all relative.

    hope that helps.

  5. im not totaly sure about this , but i would say that it would be the same as the first. heres why:
a clone is the same as the one it is taken from. so it wouldnt matter because plant 1 looks like plant 1 , smokes like plant 1 , ect. so say plant 2 is taken from plant 1. it would look , and smoke like it. plant 3 is from plant 2 and plant 2 is taken from plant 1 so its all basicaly plant 1.
sorry , not good at saying stuff clearly lol
    thats my hypothesis.

  6. youre correct dude.

the "top" of this "family tree" is plant 1. where it all began, in this guys case, lol.

There isn't a family tree. A family tree would show generations of offspring. There is no offspring, its the same plant. Just to be politically correct. This is whats confusing people. There is no true mother its just an exact copy of another plant.

  8. if you are cloning from healthy cells and healthy cuts then your clones will keep the same vigor as the original. problems occur when u clone a stressed or weak plant

  9. 4 years later and getting my questions answered. Thank god for searching topics.
