Are these pics of swollen calyx?

  1. This is my first grow and my girl is on day one of week 9. The trichomes are cloudy and some becoming amber. I am waiting for the hairs(pistols?) to turn orange and the pistols swell. Can you tell me if this is swollen calyx?

  2. I can't really tell from those pictures, but a swollen calyx almost looks like it has a seed in it. It becomes enlarged and bulbous where the pistils meet.

You strike me as a guy who can't stay out of the grow room, haha. Your stuff looks super dank, so stop worrying!

  3. You are right. I can't walk past it , when the lights are on, without stopping and stairing!! lol I'm sure(I hope) once I get a couple of grows under my belt I won't spend so much time obsessing over it. Either way from looking at this diagram I'm pretty sure it is the calyx I'm looking at. The seed looking thing with the pistils coming out. I'm not worried I just do not want to pass the peak, you know? I've got plenty of nugs to smoke. Do most people wait till all the buds are ripe? It seems the top buds are maturing faster than the lower ones.[IMG]

  4. u can harvest whenever u want, if u harvest early or late itll just have a different ratio of cannibinols in it and hav a different effect when u smoke. depends on personal preference. ive heard most ppl say they harvest when the trichomes START turning amber as it will continue to mature a bit while drying.

  5. o also i would think u could harvest a few buds b4 the rest of the plant but u dont want to stress it out so dont do to much, this also makes flushing the plant difficult as timing is important with flushing, u dont want to deprive it of nutrients for too long.. i just do it all at once to get a nice mixture of cloudy and amber trichs

  6. I have two under my belt so far, but I'm still no better about staying out of the room than I was on the first. I understand completely! As for the top buds maturing faster, I pick each one as it matures. More light will get to the bottom after you chop some off the top, so the lower ones will finish shortly after.

In general, I harvest based on both pistils and trichomes. First, I wait until almost all of the pistils are brown, regardless of what the trichomes look like. Then, if the trichomes are sufficiently amber, I cut the bud. Rinse and repeat for every other bud. I'm sure some other dudes have more sophisticated methods, but this one hasn't failed me.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll have a fine harvest.

  7. Thanks guys! Some nice info with out telling me what I have to do or trying to make me feel stupid about my questions!! I'll load one up and sit back for a bit and watch her grow! Lol :gc_rocks::gc_rocks::metal::metal:

  8. Here's another pic that I think I'm seeing calyx in. Either way I'm still holding off for more amber trich's. When people say 'swollen calyx' how much bigger do they get than mid life. If that makes sence, lol. Or do ya just use best judgment?
