Democrat County Supervisor Doesn’t Know Arizona Borders Mexico but Supports Boycott

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Dronetek, Jun 25, 2010.

  1. This just shows the level of ignorance of people who have been attacking Arizona. Most of them have no idea what they're talking about. This is more disturbing because shes an elected official.

"If Arizona were like Texas and shared a boarder with Mexico, I would have to look twice at this"

  2. Stupid people are everywhere, regardless of party. Still Arizona's Bill legalizes racial profiling, its a fat joke. Immigration reform needs to happen, but not by dismantling human rights.

  3. No it doesn't. Just because you guys repeat that talking point ad nauseum, doesn't make it true.

  4. I'm sure you have no clue whats even in the bill, just like everyone else that uses your arguement.

  5. Wow, it was actually hard to watch her try and get her point across. Goes to show how much actual in depth research people have done into this issue before digging their trenches. :rolleyes:LMFAO

  6. yes, there are stupid people everywhere

  7. You made my night, this is hilarious!

Nobody brought up parties, why did you?

The AZ bill doesn't legalize anything other than enforcing existing Federal law. So I guess the Federal government is racist as well? Why is nobody up in arms over that? Oh, that's right, people like yourself don't even READ THE DAMN LAW before spouting off bullshit opinions.

I heard someone make a good point earlier today. Everybody will readily read the Rolling Stone article about McChrystal, but nobody will read the laws they bitch about.

Oh and that stupid cunt in the video reminds me of every other stupid bitch who speaks like they're intelligent, but are really just as stupid as a sack of rocks. They're usually fatties like her too  And ALWAYS smug bitches.

  9. Its in the god dam title

And someone sounds like there a misogynist

And the Arizona bill does legalize racial profiling

Even though someone has to be already involved in a crime, once past that point it is up to the officer to decide whether or not to further investigate if that person is an illegal alien or not. How else is an officer supposed to do that other than by what race the person is or how they look.

How is that NOT racial profiling

  10. The fuckin title mentions parties. It says Democrat. Im trying to say even as a liberal minded voter I recognize that there are stupid people everywhere, in both parties.

And I have read the bill. way to neg rep me, thats really mature. That's how we should deal with differing opinions.

Alright so the topic says Democrat, I missed it. Oh well.

Misogynist because I don't like stupid fat bitches? I guess I'm also racist because I don't like Nigerian pirates, because they happen to be black  Misogynist means hates women in general, not a specific type. Otherwise, when I say "I hate asshole guys who hit their wives," I'd be misandrist. That's an asinine accusation.

It's not racial profiling because the race of the person IS NOT THE ONLY QUALIFIER TO SUSPECT THE PERSON OF BEING AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT. Is it part of it? DUH. Would you suspect a white guy who speaks fluent English to be an illegal immigrant from Mexico? Of course not, because white people don't come from Mexico. Jesus christ, I don't understand why you people don't get that. Just because the people who happen to be causing huge problems in the state are Mexican, doesn't mean Arizonans are racist against Mexicans. It means Arizonans are against the people causing the problems, doesn't matter who or from where. The Federal government won't enforce their own laws, so AZ is doing it for them. Again, where are the cries of "The Federal government is racist!!"? They're the same goddamned laws.

If this were Montana, and they had a huge problem with Canadians illegally coming in to the country and made the same law AZ did, which only enforces existing Federal law, the law would be just as racist, right? Why should the state be allowed only to enforce illegal immigration when it involves people of the same skin color? THAT sounds racist to me. The cops will be handing over to the Feds not only illegal Mexican immigrants, but illegal immigrants of any other country or race. There are people coming through the super-porous border from other countries, keep that in mind.

If you read the bill, you do not understand it. Period. It specifically prohibits racial profiling.

And rep is there to be used, get over it. I already replied directly to you and I'm doing it again, what more do you expect me to do with your incorrect assumption/opinion about a law you don't understand?

Well if you think about it...what Arizona is doing is promotion racial profiling, and also the whole law is more importantly against the 4th amendment in the constitution. Since when does an American, who may have dark skin have to carry his most personal ID...his passport.

Bottom line, it's a step closer toward a police state...literally.

What's that? he doesn't have to carry his passport?

Why All Americans Should Carry ID Papers - Newsweek

"“As an American, I cannot go to Arizona today without a passport,” declared Los Angeles City Councilman Ed Reyes, one of the sponsors of a resolution to boycott Arizona’s businesses because of its new immigration law. “If I come across an officer who’s having a bad day and feels that the picture on my ID is not me, I can be…deported, no questions asked,” the hyperbolic Reyes told the Los Angeles Times this week. “That is not American.’’"

It's pretty basic common sense if ya ask me.

EDIT: WAHAHAHAHA I JUST GOT NEG FEEDBACK FOR HAVING AN OPINION.

  13. Any bill that allows people to be targeted by their appearance is racial profiling. You cannot make judgements about where someone was born or where they have been and what they have done legally by looking at their skin. The same thing would he true if it were Utah vs. Canada. You cannot say, because you look like you're from here you have to prove you're hear legally.

  14. So let me get this straight.... it's not racial profiling because racial profiling is only a part of it...

And, while I do not claim that I am an expert on Federal Immigration law, I would like to see the federal law that this Arizona law supposedly copies.

  15. The bill doesn't allow people to be targeted by their appearance. Please, PLEASE quote that particular section from the law.

Since you either didn't read the law or don't understand it, I'll do it for you.

    Sec. 2. Title 11, chapter 7,
    B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

    J. THIS SECTION SHALL BE IMPLEMENTED IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH
FEDERAL LAWS REGULATING IMMIGRATION, PROTECTING THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF ALL PERSONS AND RESPECTING THE PRIVILEGES AND IMMUNITIES OF UNITED STATES CITIZENS.
    "

Sec. 4. Section 13-2319, E. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER LAW, A PEACE OFFICER MAY LAWFULLY STOP ANY PERSON WHO IS OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE IF THE OFFICER HAS REASONABLE SUSPICION TO BELIEVE THE PERSON IS IN VIOLATION OF ANY CIVIL TRAFFIC LAW AND THIS SECTION.

Specifically states that in order to even ask someone if they're illegal or not, the contact must be lawful. Lawful stop means you give them a reason to pull you over. Being Mexican is not a reason to be pulled over.

It also specifically states that REASONABLE SUSPICION must exist in order to question the immigration status of somebody. Skin color alone is NOT reasonable suspicion, doesn't matter how much you think it does.

It also specifically states that it has to be implemented while still protecting civil rights of all persons.

It's pretty basic common sense when you read the goddamn law.

Sec. 3. Title 13, chapter 15, B. IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF THIS SECTION, THE FINAL DETERMINATION OF ANALIEN'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY EITHER:
    1. A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO IS AUTHORIZED BY THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT TO VERIFY OR ASCERTAIN AN ALIEN'S IMMIGRATION STATUS.
    2. A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR AGENCY COMMUNICATING WITH THE UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT OR THE UNITED STATES BORDER PROTECTION PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

Again, SPECIFICALLY states that it has to be a FEDERAL officer who does anything. The cops don't arrest people for thinking they're illegal immigrants, they pass it on to the Feds. So, again, you should be bitching about the Feds being racist, if anything. Not a law that only gives local cops the authority to enforce existing Federal laws.

  16. No, it's not racial profiling because the law specifically prohibits it.

I'm not an expert either, so I'll defer to the AZ Governor since she knows even better than I do.

"Let me be clear, though: My signature today represents my steadfast support for enforcing the law —
both AGAINST illegal immigration AND against racial profiling.

This legislation mirrors federal laws regarding immigration enforcement.

Despite erroneous and misleading statements suggesting otherwise, the new state misdemeanor
crime of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document is adopted, verbatim, from
the same offense found in federal statute.

I will NOT tolerate racial discrimination or racial profiling in Arizona.

Because I feel so strongly on this subject, I worked for weeks with legislators to amend SB 1070, to
    strengthen its civil rights protections.

That effort led to new language in the bill, language prohibiting law enforcement officers from “solely
considering race, color, or national origin in implementing the requirements of this section…”

The bill already required that it “shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws
regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and
    immunities of United States citizens.”

While the general protection was already included, I believe the issue is so important, we needed to
    make it CRYSTAL clear."

Apparently it's still not clear enough for you folks.

  17. Disrespecting me eh? saying i haven't read the law, all you can come up with?

Re-read my post, and think for a second...

Your really going to put all your faith into a police officer who may or may not be racist, and or be having a bad day at work?

    Common sense...

All I can come up with? I replied with a rebuttal to what you posted, so no, saying you didn't read the law wasn't all I came up with.

I don't need to re-read your post, it's just as incorrect as it was when you wrote it. Since you think all I did was disrespect you, it's clear you, again, have not read the law.

Will cops be racist? Sure. This law doesn't change anything about that, and I never made the claim that there aren't racist cops. Again, as has been said ad nauseum, racism is explicitly prohibited in the law. You say the law allows racism, but it explicitly prohibits it. If a cop is stupid enough to try to be racist in that kind of environment, I DO have faith that the assholes will be found out. You just know that everybody's going to be watching AZ like hawks, so it's pretty damn safe to assume that the higher-ups are drilling into the heads of the LEOs to not do anything stupid like suspect someone in a state that borders Mexico, who just looks Mexican, of being an illegal. Someone who looks Mexican, but has a drivers license, isn't going to be suspected of being an illegal immigrant.

You then quoted Ed Reyes, who clearly demonstrates he has not read the law, because he incorrectly said that any cop having a bad day will deport him, no questions asked. That's asinine. Since you seemed to agree with him, it's a safe assumption you have not read the law, either. The law, as I posted (and you apparently glossed over like I glossed over the word Democrat in the title), specifically says that the cop who pulls you over, unless he's a Fed, has to hand it over to the Feds. Unless you mean Feds and only Feds when you say cops (nobody does unless they specify), then no, a cop having a bad day cannot deport you.

You guys want to reduce this all down to race, despite evidence of the contrary. If you want to accuse AZ cops of being racist, then accuse the cops of being racist. Don't accuse a law that specifically prohibits racial discrimination of being racially discriminatory.

Common sense means reading a law before bitching about it.

  19. Look's like someone hasn't read the law;)...we can go back and forth all day.

But all the law scholars tend to agree with me.

  20. We can, but I'm not going to bother. I've proven I've read the law, since I, you know, quoted the law. You can try to say I haven't, but then you're just making yourself look a fool
