  2. i loooooooooooooove it, as you would know from my past posts

  3. I know you do Pigwax, I actually made this thread just for you and I to talk about it. The other thread you had to many people to deal with so I started a new one knowing you would most likely be the first to post considering the source. Pigwax, I asked a question and you said you loooooooved it but you never answered the question so since you know who this is for and you know the subject please fill in the blanks for me.

What do you really know about the Christian Religion?

Thanks for taking the time out of your life pigwax, I'm looking forward to your posts and your comments. God Bless.

  5. Wilseph-

How did you come to believe what you believe about this religion?

  6. with_his_author what type of Christian are you? I was raised a Roman Catholic but never really liked going to church, not to mention i was very confused about some of the beliefs. Like what exactly is the holy spirit?....and how can God summon us to an ETERNITY of heaven or hell when there are only ~80 years of life?

I know about some of the basic principles, like the ten commandments. i know Jesus preached the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," and that is the main one i follow.

  7. i know that the christian religion gives appealing hope to many people, but thats all, just a blind faith with no real reasonable points to believe what they say over other religions. you say you have the bible - what does that prove? that people in the past could write with an imaginative and intimidating tone. you say you don't need proof, god is there, just believe - some people can be drawn into new beliefs very easily, without ever a second thought of another possibility, but i need proof, not just word of mouth from people taken in. you say that it explains everything, and makes sense - there are alot of explanations, i gave some in your previous thread, but you cannot completely prove any one theory about the past because you were not there, thats why i'm agnostic, because i really can't say for sure, i can only give debatable opinions.

but n e wayz, i think the christian religion is beautiful in a way, because it makes so many feel better about themselves, by giving them hope thier whole lives, but i also feel that people who believe in it are living in ignorance because they can't accept the fact that they don't really know anything for sure, they just go by stories, because stories explain things, stories set minds at ease and thats really all your trying to hold on to. also, so many religions are so commercial, catholic being by far the worst and longest running (i was baptized catholic). Faith in having a better life has always been able to seperate people from thier money. i probably have more to say, but i'm tired from smoking, i'll see your reply tomorrow.

  8. Christianity, like any other religion is an imaginative tale of irrational superstition put into system to be used as a tool of mindcontrol and suppression.

Christianity, again like any other religion, tries to stiffle free thought and imagination. It tries to subdue natural human urges and wishes. It tries to undermine critical thinking and logical reasoning. It tries to impose static in a universe that is dynamic.

The bible is not a know it all fountain of truth. If you want truth and fact, look to science. If you want mindnumbing comfort, look to religion.

What the biblethumpers want to do is change the terrain according to their map. Any rational beeing would look at the terrain, and rewrite their map.

  9. the fact that they basically believe "if you dont believe in Jesus Christ your going to hell" and all of their money driven actions throughoutt he centuries, ie: allowing people to "buy" their spot in heaven, i forget when this was along time ago tho. Plus they pretty much started the belief that men were superior to women which has unfortunatly stayed with us for a thousand years. Also, the entire religion is basically based on pagan beliefs, just tweaked a bit (pretty much all the holidays can be traced back to seasonal festivals, saints are named after ancient pagan gods/goddesses, and the idea of a god(jesus) being born , dying , then being reborn.(Pagan/celtic folklore is big on the cycles of the seasons, and birth, death, rebirth, or reincarnation). I wouldnt have a problem w/ this exept they turn this around and say the pagans were "the devil" because they didnt understand anything about them. Definatly a double standard if ive ever seen one(i dunno if thats the word but hopefull u get my point. The only real problem I have w/ Christianity is their narrow-mindedness

  10. Im Catholic And Yall Seem To Be A Lot More Narrow Minded Than Me

  11. why? because we give understandable answers? christians can't ever really prove anything. you read through the posts and call us narrow minded? you make no sense. read up on the christian toker thread.

  12. Lol^^ This New Guy Tryin To School Me. Uh Yea Ive Read That 1 Homie. Dont Get Pissed Cause Of What I Think Peeeace

  13. what? i'm not getting pissed, and i'm not trying to "school" you, but i am new, so what?. all i meant was that you said we were close minded, but you didn't really give any real views on the subject. *peace* ... i guess :smoking:

  14. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and his teachings. I practice the religion of Jesus Church.

Alot of teachers of all religions are hard to understand, question will always clear up or reafirm beliefs. About going to church thou, alot of people think a good Christian or Chatholic goes to church every sunday. No so by far. Going to church is like going to school, you go there to learn from a teacher and just like school some teachers you just don't understand. One can praise/worship God anywhere it doesn't have to be just in a building. I praise God every time I see a beautiful sunset or some cool arranged clouds in the sky. God is praised when you give thanks and when you use what he has given you like your talents and abilitys.

Alot of people view this differently so I can only say what I beleive theHoly Spirit to be. I believe the Holy Spirit is a part of God that is in every person. Most don't know what it is or how it got there but it's in everyone. I believe the Holy Spirit is the Conscience. It tells right and wrong. It doesn't say what is right but it lets you know your doing right. It doesn't tell you whats wrong but it lets you know what your doing is wrong. It is the straight answer that some listen to which I call walking in the spirit and some don't which I call mostly troubled times. Again many people have different beilefs about that so I can only answer for myself.

My Uncle died this morning so thats why I didn't reply earlier but his death will help answer your question. Our bodies I beleive are like seeds. The seed is a thing but when the seed goes intot he ground it becomes what it is intended on being (the plant). Our body is like the seed, we go into the ground and I believe after we pass we are like the seed and become what we are intended on being and we get our spiritual body. If nature give the answers why not look.

The ten commandments were put here on earth to show us what sin is:

    Romans 3:20

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

The ten commandments shows what not to do:

    Have you ever stolen anything?

I have, if one steals something that makes him a thief.

    Have you ever lied before?

I have, that makes me a liar.

These are things I know were wrong but I did them anyways. I knew the law yet I didn't uphold them because of one reason or another. I'm sure every person that has read up to here answered the same thing as I did. The ten commandments shows us what is wrong to do, but Jesus/God knew we all couldn't uphold the commands he gave so Jesus/God came down to earth to be perfect so that way he could be the perfect sacrifice for us. Jesus has already made every person clean of sin when he died on the cross, he took all sin on his shoulders so we could be made clean. All one has to do is accept his gift of grace and freedom and love your neighbor. There are no laws any more to follow because Christ fulfilled the law there by taking the law that made us unclean away.

    Romans 6:14

For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask there are a few Christ followers that post here and I'm sure one of us will answer. God Bless.

  15. There are many good open minded christians out there I'm sure, but around here there are very few. They are all ignorant idiots who refuse to believe anything that is not written in the bible. Yeah the bible is a good moral guideline to me but I really believe in the universal energy and when you die you become part of that energy... after many shroom experiences I have come to believe this and I was previously atheist.

  16. If our beliefs are right (which they could) then it's alot more then just hope. But to people of your faith I see how it could seem that way.

Again to people of your faith I see how it could seem that way.

I didn't say anything like that but I assume your refering to some Christian you heard in the past so I will be collected and placed in that gerealization because I follw Christ. What does it prove you ask, well it proves we have a Bible. What did you think we thought it proves?

I still have a hard time with the tone part since when reading something the tone comes from your own voice but I guess when one of your faith reads a book of my faith and is already a hater (I used the word hater in a gansta way) of the people that follow it I can see how you would think it has a harsh tone. I also can understand why a person of your faith would think that the stories were imaginary, some have not been proven and the ones that have been looked into have alot of people with there own theories about them. I guess it all comes down to which author do you want to believe, a choice one has to make for themselves. You and others have choosen the skeptic side and others and myself have taken the mirical side. I guess we won't know until we know for sure (wanted to say after we die but you might think nothing happens after we die so why even get into that)

Again nothing I say but I imagin I'm being clumped together again with some Christian in another part of the country that said something like what you said. I would love proof, for real thou. Of course I see why God doesn't give any, say there is proof. How many people on earth would still disbelieve or jsut flat out be pissed at him for some reason or another. How sad would that make any father.

Very true. There are those people out there.

I'm sorry I don't have the proof you look for. I could tell you about kids that stayed alive in cars by themselves for days on end but any skeptic will say thats just luck. I could tell you stories of people having cancer and all of a sudden being healed but any skeptic will just say the first or second doctor just messed up on the test. I could give you stories of people supposed to have been dead because of a horrible car crash but aren't but any skeptic will say there body was loose causing them to limp out of the car at the right time before smashing dead into the tree. It all comes down to choice. What you believe is what you believe no one will change that. No matter how clear the signs are sometimes.

Yet again I assume your not talking about me cause I never said such a thing. Must be one of those gereralization times for you again. I don't have an explantion for everything I don't even have an explaination for 1/8th of your questions but I will give it my best shot. Making sence thou, maybe not cause sometimes the clearist things are the hardest to understand.

Good point, even better I never said I could.

That is the faith you have come to trust, and that those are the choices you have chosen to make and believe in. I can't change you nor do I want to. I enjoy hearing what others have to say and what others beleive. I tend to get into debates like this because people clump all Christians together and have alot of beliefs about us which aren't true but I enjoy the talking and letting people vent about my religion cause I'm strong enough to take it unlike other Christians that would get discouraged. I gladly take that sufewring for my fellow brother just as God gladly did it for myself.

I to think it's a beautiful religion. It does give people hope just not hope about this life only hope about the after life. It says this life will be full of suffering because we believe in Jesus and the world will hate us for doing so. Not much hope in that message, probably why pastors don't preach on those verses.

But isn't that what your faith is in, the faith in not knowing for sure. The people aren't living in ignorance because they know none of what they believe can be proven. They live as soldiers because they are always having to defend there faith from someone that wants them to believe as they do. Either in nothing at all, or in believing "I don't know", or believing in another commercial religion. The fact is they have faith in soemthing just as you have faith in something there faith is just as someone called it "mapped out" where the faiths or "I don't know" and nothing at all are not mapped out it's a journey one takes on thier own.

The stories mostly don't explain things, the stories are examples to either not do as this person did or do as this person did cause it worked out in the end. Just as life lessons passed down from parents to child. Don't touch this cause it hot. One can still touch it but if they would have listened to the story of how the mother didn't listen and touched it they woudln't have the same burning on there hand. Examples and warnings thats all one can be either an example to live by or a warning to not do as they do.

So many are, of course there are an equal or greater amount that aren't like those that are. Examples and warnings as I said before.

As I said before it's deffinatly not faith in a better life it's faith that this life isn't meaningless it's faith that God will grant us permission to enter in heaven because we have accepted the free enterance passed named Jesus. Not faith for a better life just read how many verses there are saying how people will hate us for beleiving what we believe:

    Luke 21:17
    Luke 6:22
    Mark 13:13
    Mark 10:22

There are plenty more I just know it doesn't do a thing for you so why waist both our times.

I'm looking to hearing from you on this subject. Sorry it took so long I had a death in the family so I was a way for a while.

  17. Well, I've been a Chrsitian since I was 9, I have done every drug out there, I have done many crimes, I have been very happy, I have been all over in my thinking so I'd have to say your opinion is appriciated but is no where near fact. It's not all mind control because if it was would I have not done the things I have said I did. If it was suppression wouldn't I have been suppressed through out all those years? I don't see it but of course you have so I will not question your opinion.

If those wishes and urges are to steal from someone else, to liar to someone when the truth could be told, to not cheat on the one you are married to, to not dishonor your parnts cause thery gave you life I guess then what you said would be true.

Thats why it says test everything huh. Cause it's underminding in a reverse phycological way I guess.

Sorry but you lost me on that part.

Science isn't all proven, so it's up to people which it's always been cause the whole free will God made us with to believe as they beleive. You have chosen science to answer your questions I have choosen God. Both are faiths cause both haven't been proven to be true. I'm happy your happy, yeah!!! I don't throw insults you don't oh wait you do, maybe thats the difference. I believe in respect, politness, tolerance and you may but just don't show it.

Don't forget the whole eternity in heaven thing. Thats a purk to add to the mindnumbing part.

Are you talking about life? If so we aren't rewritting the terrain as you called it we are writting the terrain we haven't come to yet, the after life terrain. Thanks for your insight it's been enjoyable talking with you, I hope this conversation will go on from here.

  18. It is that way but a little differnetly. It's more or God gave us laws (ten commandments) they were placed on your heart and my heart thats why I beleive the conscience knows right from wrong. Because we did wrong we deserve our punishment, just as a criminal wouldn't get out of jail if he did good deeds before he got caught he would still go to jail because of the bad thing he did. It's the same way we did the sin we should pay the price. But what Jesus did was pay the price for us and if we accept the forgiveness and grace then we don't have to take the punishment.

It isn't anything like that. The reason people give to the church is because of the work the church does. I don't agree with giving tithe (giving) sermons because I feel if it's from God, God will provide for it you shouldn't have to ask for anything. Those are just misguided people taking advatage of people. It happens everywhere, some people are just assholes like that.

Did you know that in those days Jesus was a women helper not a supressor. Many stories in the Bible show Jesus helping women inspite of what other religiouse leaders of those days had to say about it. No doubt that it was like that but in no way was it the Chrsitian faith because Christianity came far after the whole down with women thing started.

I thought it was about Jesus Christ. The story of him, the story or his disciples and the stories of their anncestors. Pagans and what not, don't know much about them but just like some movies remind me of other movies I guess the same can be said about religions as well.

I don't see myself as narrow minded but of course a narrow minded person would say he wasn't (or he really isn't) so I will just say what I do. I listen to people, I understand where people are coming from. I have a choice to believe as they do or beleive what I believe and I adapt to each situation. Change or no change I believe I am open minded I just don't agree or am perswaded very easily just as yourself isn't and others aren't.

It's been a great talk I didn't really see your answer to the question I asked. Of course the answer was simple just "I chose to believe it" My point being people have a choice and just because one chooses differently then another doesn't mean it's the right one to have choosen.

  19. I haven't meet one here that isn't open minded, but of course that is your opinion and I can't deny that. I just don't see it as you.

I do believe your wrong, infact I know your wrong on that remark. My proof:

    http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/general/bruin.htm

I believe everything they said there and it's not the Bible. I also believe my math book that says one plus one is two. Thats not the Bible. Sorry but I believe your emotions took control of you when you posted cause any reasonable person knows what you wrote is just plan dumb.

Alright you have a faith in something, does that mean I can call you an ignorant idiot cause I believe different of you. You right I wouldn't cause as I have said in another post here I have tolerance, Respect, etc. where people of your faith seem to just want to call names cause I/we don't believe as you. Most of the post that use name calling just shows how smart the poster truly is.

Cool, who knows what else you might discover, maybe one day you'll see mine and others point of view. Maybe.

  20. I have been raised in the Chuch of Christ. Some of you may recognize the name and cringe. This particular denomination is extremely conservative, and goes by the bible word for word.

However, I have always had doubts. A few questions I have had that no one could answer:

    John 3:16 (paraphrased)

For God so loved the world that he gave is only son to die for the forgiveness of our sins.

This is for everyone. Salvation for everyone. YAY!
But wait, What about the Native Americans in the Western Hemisphere that never knew that the Eastern Hemisphere even existed? Do they goto Heaven? Do they goto Hell?

This point immediately makes me think of how small minded they were. When the apostles were sent out to the world, they were sent no farther west than present-day Portugal. Anything farther East than present-day Poland was considered complete wilderness. They didn't know people existed over there. This is in DIRECT contradiction to the bible. No one has EVER been able to explain this to me. To make matters worse, goto a private christian university.

It's said in the bible that Heaven is "paradise." Define paradise. I would want my family and friends to surround me. Everything would be in perfect harmony. Paradise.

That is not how the bible describes it. In Heaven, you will NOT remember ANYONE from your life on Earth. Nothing "of the world" can be brought into Heaven. This includes your memories. You will praise God 24/7 for eternity.

Based on this, how do you define yourself? I am a product of my experiences and environment. If I have no memories in Heaven, how can I be me? I would be an empty shell of my former self. A zombie that praises God forever? That's no heaven i want any part of. That's more of a hell.

I occasionally get answers to this one. The answer is as follows: You cannot attempt to explain something as amazing as Heaven with your human mind. God is omniscient and thinks in ways we can't imagine.

Well, if that's the case, why is Hell something I can easily imagine. We will be immersed into a lake of burning brimstone and sulfur. We will feel the pain, but never die. Eternal torture with no relief. Period.

I have no questions about that. Black and white. It seems suspiciously strange that when it comes to Hell, the definition is clear: you DONT want to go there! But when it comes to defining Heaven...my mind isn't big enough to understand?

It seems to me that Heaven would be different for everyone. The bible says differently though.

Any explanations are gladly welcomed, seeing as i am a Christian.

I also would like to apologize on behalf of my religion to all of those who have been judged by Christians. I would never judge anyone. What you do is your business, and i would never tell you that you are going to hell for it or hold it against you.
