Preflowering and clonning! I dont get it.

  1. Ok people have told me that the easiest way to get more plants is just simply to clone them from a mother plant. Ummmm ok but I thought that you couldn't clone the plant if it was in the flowering stage correct? So if I have a plant in the veg stage and start clonning it how am I even sure I am cloning a female. If there are no flowers yet then I could just as well be cloning a male. My question is how do you tell if it is a male or female in order to clone the plant? If the plant is flowering then you can't clone it right? Well how do you tell the sex without the plant flowering. AAAAAHHH I'm so confused now!

I have heard of preflowering but I dont quite understand it. Some people say you can just rap a lower branch in black paper for 12/12 and ONLY that BRANCH will flower. I dont really understand that either. OH and I have searched quite a bit , so could someone help me?

  2. take a cutting from the unknown sex plant and flower it... the sex of the cutting is the sex of the plant... if its female, good. if its male, chop it...

then from now on use cuttings only and all your plants will always be female...

  3. Ok so I will take a cutting from the unkown plant and flower it. How big does the cutting need to get before you can flower it? I dont care if the cutting dies, I just want to know the sex of the plant. Could I try and flower it imediatly even though it is still young or will I have to wait for it to grow a few months as well?

  4. B4 you do all that, Have you ever heard of bag flowering? U can put some light proof black trash bags over one branch of the unknown mother/father for 12/12. That ONE branch will show sex, while the rest of the plant continues to veg. If it shows female, chop that one branch, then you can begin the cloning process. If its male, chop the whole plant. It's faster than, taking a cutting and flowering that. However, it does require more work, seeing as how you have to remove/replace the bag every 12 hours. But Hippie John's way would work just as well :)

  5. i find that virtually every plant that ive grown indoors have put on pre-flowers around week 6 - 7 from seed.

i then take cuttings from those plants that ive id'ed as fem.

maybe its more of a indica thing than a sativa but who grows sativa in the basement...

and ill bet they even put on preflowers early in the cycle.

  6.
Is anyone else doing this, taking cuttings once the pre-flowers appear?
Due to couple reasons, that would be the most ideal time for me to take them clones but i'm worried that those clones won't be as strong as when taken from veg?

  7. Pre-flower shows up in veg, hence the name. If you want to be extra sure try one of the given methods.

Also about that bag method, if your going to cut off that branch anyway, you don't need to keep removing the bag every twelve hours, just keep it on until it shows sex then cut.

  8. you can take cuts in flower. they are actually very bushy. i wouldn't wait much longer than day 21 though. the farther in you are, the longer it takes to root/revert....

  9. When i let the plants veg for only 20-25 days from seed then switch... i'm sure there wont be any pre flowers showing up then. Ill expect them to appear around 14 to 21 days after the flip. Do u still consider that veg?

  10. Just cut all your clones and put one on 12/12 straight from cutting. It will take longer to root but you will be able to sex it in a very short time. Once you know sex you either keep them all or bin all the clones and the donor plant

  11. I take my clones in weeks 2-3 of flower. You get bigger clones and they still have that little growth boost from the 12/12 flip. It has always helped my clones shoot out roots better.
