It's CRITICAL that you know your rights and how to properly invoke them!

Freedom Card

Posted ImageKeep this card with you in case of involvement with law enforcement personnel.

Instructions to make your own card:

  • Download the PDF document. Also print 4 cardson one page. (Requires Adobe Reader).
  • Print page one

  • Re-insert the paper to print on the back and print page two

  • Trim and fold between the opposing text

  • Card stock suggested
Text of the card
The U.S. Constitution prohibits the government from interfering with
your right to remain silent, to consult with an attorney, and to be free
from unreasonable searches and seizures by law enforcement.
However, it is up to you to assert these rights. This NORML Foundation
Freedom Card will help you do so effectively.

If you are confronted by a police officer, remain calm. Be courteous
and provide your identification. Politely refuse to answer any further
questions. Ask to talk to an attorney. Do not consent to any search of
your person, your property, your residence or your vehicle. Tell the
officer you would like to give him or her this card, which is a statement
of the constitutional rights you wish to invoke. Do not reach for this
card until you have obtained the officer’s permission to do so.

I hereby invoke and refuse to waive all of the following rights and
privileges afforded to me by the U.S. Constitution:

• I invoke and refuse to waive my Fifth Amendment right to
remain silent. Do not ask me any questions.

• I invoke and refuse to waive my Sixth Amendment right to an
attorney of my choice. Do not ask me any questions without my
attorney present.

• I invoke and refuse to waive all privileges and rights pursuant
to the case Miranda v. Arizona. Do not ask me any questions or make
any comment to me about this decision.

• I invoke and refuse to waive my Fourth Amendment right to be
free from unreasonable searches and seizures. I do not consent to
any search or seizure of myself, my home, or of any property in my
possession. Do not ask me about my ownership interest in any
property. I do not consent to this contact with you. If I am not
presently under arrest or under investigatory detention, please allow
me to leave.

• Any statement I make, or alleged consent I give, in response
to your questions is hereby made under protest and under duress and
in submission to your claim of lawful authority to force me to provide
you with information.

^^yep, at school, a lot of your rights are taken away, and the law gives the school this power. You, and anything else on school property (including your locker, your car, etc.) are all subject to random searches at any time.

Also, try not to do something stupid on the way to or from school. One of my friends was expelled a couple months before graduation because he fought another kid on the way home from school. Lemme tell ya, he was pissed.

Is there a site like NORML for Canadian laws? It would be interesting to see my rights concerning marijuana usage/possesion. I tried looking on http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/ but couldnt find a darned thing. Thanks.

If he's just giving you a speeding ticket, don't give him the card. This is if he suspects you have marijuana on you.... Though I am highly doubting how effective this is....

There is such a big grey area here. No where does it state how to avoid a K9-unit. I've heard of people doing exactly what is stated here (stated rights verbally). 2/3 of the cases had the K9 called and busted them, the 3rd threatened to bring a K9 and he buckeled under the pressure. Anyone want to fill in the grey area?

i highly doubt this will work

most cops when they see something l ike this or are handed something like this will go irate

at the same time they will say they had probable cause (which is basically anything) and search your car anyways

i dont really see the point in this. surely its an admission of guilt. if i was a cop and i went to someones house where they then presented me with a small prepared laminated peice of card id be imediatly suspicious. why would an innocent person have such a thing?

even if it does mean you dont get imediatly busted on the spot, it will mean youl probably be flagged and youl have to remove your grow anyway.

id rather just talke my chances and secure my grow as well as possible and then hope the cop doesnt find it.

cops cannot search anything that is locked in your posession without a warrent.
this includes your trunk and your glove compartment.

Yeah ... earlier this year they brought the drug sniffing dogs and found pipes and weed in 4 of my fellow seniors cars ... they were all suspended except for one who actually had a quarter in his glove box. He got arrested and expelled -- and is now unable to walk at graduation with the rest of us (obviously)

Last year my car was searched -- it's actually a long story of how it happened but my boyfriend at the time was in the car and they searched it (we had been having a lot of bomb threats ... we had 2-3 a day for about 3 months ... I guess they thought there was a bomb in the car:confused:) I know I wouldn't have been able to do anything about the search but I really would have appeciated it if they would have let me know beforehand instead of afterwards ... and I don't know what the were looking for ... that really did piss me off two undercover detectives questioning me like a damn criminal twenty minutes after the fact ... good thing I took my bowl out of the glove box the day before ... haha

There should be a Canadian one.

I'm just too lazy to be digging through the Canadian Constitution.
