Wellbutrin? Anyone take it?

  1. Hello, so right now, I am doing quite bad in college. Time after time, teachers have told me that I should go see a doctor for ADD. Well, it took long enough for me to do it, but anyways, I was prescribed Wellbutrin. This is because I also took a depression test, I am infact depressed and it is an issue aswell, but I was expecting something more along the lines of adderal. I have taken adderall once and I found that it worked well for me. I wanted to ask my doctor about this, but I dont want her to think im just gonna be a amphetamine abuser.....I just want my life back, and I cant do it if I cant focus in school, or if im depressed laying on the couch all day. Will this drug work well for both symptoms? Has anyone taken it or anything? Im going to pop my first pill in about a half hour.

  2. i mean, i can't tell you how it will affect your add - it doesn't seem like something that would be prescribed for it, but i don't know. i just started taking it a week ago, and i actually kind of like it (am just starting to notice it working). I have been on two ssri's in the past (celexa and prozac) and hated them both, so i was weary to try another anti-depressent. its only been a week and takes about 2 weeks to fully kick in, so i'll let ya know in a week whats up, but as of now i have no complaints (and the other two i hated within 2 days of taking it)

  3. Hmmm, I took it a lil while ago and I feel great. Chances are its a placebo, but I really dont care. When I close my eyes, it feels as if my head is empty, ready to learn and absorb, rather than closing my eyes and stressing about school. I also feel a little buzz from it, nothing much, its like having a red bull minus the jitters, and im feel super calm and controlled. Time to do some programming while its still kicking in....

  4. i was on it for a few years, stopped taking it after they put me on the highest dose. it worked better than the other ssris id been on, (prozac, effexor, zoloft) but it didnt really fix any of my problems

  5. Don't listen to this guy he is clueless and has clearly never been depressed. Also pharmaceutical companies aren't out to get you hooked on any drugs like this guy is suggesting. Basically all anti depression meds do is balance the chemicals in your brains. To further explain when your depressed your brain lacks the chemical called serotonin and all the meds do is increase that chemical.

And depression/anxiety can get in the way of your school work. My therapist told me instead of worrying about this or that, you'll be able to concentrate on school.

  6. Also to further back up my statement, when you are severely depressed it is not something you can turn on and off and it certainty isn't normal. It is an overwhelming feeling in which no matter how much you try and think positive, it is still there. Its nothing you can help and you shouldn't feel bad about having to take meds because it takes a lot of courage to admit your problems and try and fix them.

You are wrong, he is right but he is also exaggerating.
Drugs are manufactured to make money, end of story.
Pharmaceutical companies pay doctors to prescribe their medications.
If you notice whenever a new psych drug comes out all the doctors want to put you right on it and say it's the best thing yet...until the next one comes out.
It is a business. Helping people...not really a priority, where is the cash?
Look how Purdue, makers of Oxycontin claimed that their drug was not addictive, they were also sued for the largest amount in pharmaceutical history for making this claim.
Medication is not the answer for most mental problems.
Nothing cures depression, except solving your issues.
And don't buy this "chemical imbalance" shit. That is ridiculous.
Doctors are so quick to throw that bait out there but they don't ever test the levels of your Serotonin, Norepinephrine, or Dopamine.
How can they say that your chemicals aren't in correct balance when they never evaluate them in the first place?
    Think.

marijuana is about making money too, in that same aspect. it comes from the top somewhere, where somebody is robbing everyone blind. but we all buy it, cause weeds awesome. drugs are awesome too!!!

but seriously. i mean, yeah they are made to get money, but that isn't why they're prescribed. in fact, they're only expensive while the company still has the patent, which is only allowed to last, i believe, 18 years, which is when generics of the same drug are made. when drugs first come out, theyre expensive, and over time they decrease. they're expensive because it takes about 11-13 years (only leaving~ 6 years left with the patent!!! quick, make money!) of research and testing just to make the drug. they're already greatly in the hole. then they start marketing a shit ton, because they need to sell their product as fast as they can while they still have a monopoly over it. so yea, the business is about making monney, but every business is.

the doctors are the ones who prescribe it, and there is no benefit for a doctor to prescribe a medicine. doctors aren't allowed to take money, offers, or incentives from pharm. companies to prescribe their medicine. the fact is drugs are developed because a lot of them can be used to amazing potential. you can lower blood pressure nowadays! crazy! sure some medication doesn't work, has side effects, or sometimes has to get taken off the market, but its continually getting better. drugs aren't a big giant conspiracy.

oh, but everything about marijuana is:smoking:

  9. A LOT of people do things that "they aren't allowed." lmao.
Don't be naive. It happens very frequently.
And ask everyone one you know who is medicated for any type of mental illness and every one of them will tell you that they have never been subjected to any sort of test like that.
I am not debating that chemical imbalances occur, but most of the time it's just what the doctor says and he has no proof of said imbalance.
It's another thing to add to the basis of the medication epidemic.
People are taking way more drugs than before.
And people aren't any better off now than before.
But the pharmaceutical companies are a hell of a lot better off.
Do you see what I am getting at.
Not only are drugs being manufactured but also the need for them.

  10. I don't remember why, but wellbutrin affects your attention as well as your mood, so it is perscribed to treat both simultaneously. My doctor explained why once(I also had mood and attention problems so I was put on it to treat both, like you), so if yours never, I'm sure he would if you asked him.

  11. I would plan to take this pharmaceutical temporarily, for less than a year, because long-term effects of these newly accepted drugs are not known. I think pharmaceutical drugs have a place in our lives, but they should be used temporarily aid in supplementation with other techniques rather than as a solution to an issue.

  12. word, no wonder this is helping way more than the other ones. i cna't focus for shit, and was at one point in my life diagnosed with add but i wont take aderall or anythin. i used to buy it at school for studying and loved it at first, but it may be one of my most hated drugs now

    well said

  13. Hey I just wanted to give a little update on my situation. I had a long talk with my family, after some critical thinking and research, and I came to a conclusion that I am not going to take the medicine. I took it for the first two days, only half of the dose. But it was not what I want to do. I do feel like my doctor prescribed this out of the whole "fad" behind it. And long term effects are not known. On top of that, I cant drink alcohol (not that I do much anyways, but everyone in a while is ok), I also have to watch my caffeine intake. As an energy drink connoisseur, I simply could not accept it. On top of that, wellbutrin has been shown to only be helpful for people with ADD when taken in larger doses. I am prescribed a 150mg pill, which is less than half of what people taking for ADD are prescribed. Pretty much, the only thing it does focus wise, is makes me feel like I had a cup of coffee for an hour or so. I also am planning on making huge lifestyle changes. My whole life, I had been riddled with bad grades, failed classes, and barely getting by. All of that has to change, because I know I have the mental capacity to accomplish my goals, and some pill isnt going to change that. It might help, but I would rather take a more natural approach. I have been looking into natural remedies and those plant/herb pills you can buy. The ones that contain Ginko, or fish oil for omega3's. I am also going to start eating healthier, becoming more organized with a planner that has every single event of the day in it. Regular, non cramped sleeping patterns will also help. What people need to remember is that you need to reward yourself, otherwise homework, studying, working, will all feel like mundane tasks that are not worth doing. And now I realize that if I never try at anything, I will never be happy, because I will have that chip on my shoulder. Also, I am planning on laying off the bud for a while, maybe once I get into the pattern of my new lifestyle I might smoke on weekends or something, not only will my tolerance remain low, but I will also enjoy it more knowing that I worked hard the previous school week, guilt free.

Thanks for everyones help, I needed to get this out.
Also, if anyone wants to talk about anything or any problems they have, feel free to shoot me a message.

    My new life starts....now!
