Hi everyone. I'm 20 years old. I first started smoking when I was 17. Up until I was 19 weed was just something to do for fun with friends once in a while, but since January of 2009 I've been smoking just about every day. Since June-July of '09 I've been buying nothing but dank. For the past few months I've been smoking more than once a day, sometimes 3-4 times. I use it more as medicine than anything else.

I know I need to take a tolerance break because it's affecting just about every decision I make. I'll skip classes just to stay home and smoke. I get up feeling weird and sweaty at 5-6 a.m. and feel like rolling a spliff just to be able to go back to bed. A few weeks ago I stayed home for days in a row, not leaving my house to even go to see my friends. I just toked. I felt like I'd been living in a cave at that point.

My highs don't last long anymore. I'll smoke a J and be doubting how high I'm getting, even though it's good shit. Then I'll practically sober up 15 minutes later. Part of me thinks it's because I'm so doubtful about how high I'm really getting nowadays, but I think there's also some legitimacy to it.

3 days ago I bought some 5-HTP to intensify my highs. I've never stooped to pills before to enhance marijuana, yet I've now been taking 200 mg. an hour of those before I toke just to get a long-lasting effect. I took 400 mg. yesterday, 200 earlier in the day and 200 at night, so I could toke along.

I need a break bad.

This will be my first true break so I'm kind of afraid. Weed has become too controlling; nowadays when I toke I just feel alone and depressed, and then I think about my tolerance getting higher and feel sad that something I love so much doesn't work as well for me anymore. I literally don't have a life right now. I know when I take a break I'm going to be irritable and really sad, but it seems I'm not too happy right now either.

I was considering a week-long break but the more I read your stories, the more it sounds like a guy like me will have to take a longer break. I had a few questions before I truly go through with this.

Question:
I plan on exercising daily while taking a break. Will this be enough to wash out toxins faster than, say, a 2-week break without exercise? Will I get the same feeling if I toke after a week of no smoking and working out that I would from just 2 weeks without exercise?

Question:
I was considering buying one of those supplements that washes out THC for a drug test. Do those also get rid of the fatty THC cells that raise your tolerance? For example if I drank the stuff down, waited a day and smoked, would it be like a week-long break?

Thanks so much for reading if you read. Any hints or advice from people who have taken breaks is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about all of that, but I would say to quit for a month or two. Just take a break, save some money up.

I'm afraid at this point I'd be driven mad taking a 2-month break.

Your problem won't be how long, it'll be the first few days. Once you make it through the first few days you'll be fine. The first few days are hard because you will probably have withdrawal symptoms. Irritable, restlessness, etc.

You'll be fine. As the above poster said, the first few days will be the most difficult. Just keep yourself occupied. Being bored isn't going to help you at all.

Hey man. Just want to let you know I've been there. The best way to do it is just straight up quit for a month. No bullshit shortcuts like detox drinks. Just buy some melatonin ( natural sleep pills ) because you'll probably need them. Although this may not be the case I always find when I abuse the herb it's when something else in my life is bothering me. Get some really good movies or tv series and make a bunch of plans to go party and play ball or video games or whatever (with other humans) like they said after the first few days it's a little easier and then the 10th it gets like kinda actually fun, I call it the bounce back because it feels like spring again or some shit I just get hyper and social. And man, I know I shouldn't tell you what to do so I'll just say personally I find smoking everyday a bad idea. It just gets to the point where all I think about is weed and it gets in the way of my dreams. Good luck man!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still worried with what to do with myself (I don't have many friends), but I have family and a few classes I can occupy myself with.

MNd0ti, does the Melatonin pill have a brand name or different brand names? What specifically should I look for? I feel like I'll definitely be needing those.

Also MNd0ti, you're absolutely right. I feel I have some kinda depression or bipolar disorder. I use weed to treat that but it's basically not working anymore. It's very disappointing. I've talked to my family about being depressed but they don't believe in any of that. They tell me I've no reason to be. I've brought up prescription pills to treat my mood but they think it's bullshit.

Your in the same boat I am. I started for fun and now I burn everyday, but my high doesn't last more than 15-30 minutes. It sucks. I guess I have to take a break too!

1. At 20... you just can't be a seasoned toker.
2. This isn't the right forum for this kinda thing anyway.

I'm in the same boat as you... kinda. I started smoking freshman year of college and have only had two breaks longer than a day since.... 19 days to try to pass a test legitimately and 11 days in jail.

My only suggestions are to tell your friends not to pass to you even if you change your mind and budget your money out so that you are not tempted to buy.

the melatonin isn't a specific brand it's just the name of the chemical/herb it's actually a neurotransmitter. if you go to a health food store and ask for melatonin they'll know what your talking about.

i feel you on this situation.

i smoked for a few years, then i moved to germany, went three months no budd. After a month or so i started to sleep normal again. And i really didnt crave weed to bad, but id have dreams about it everynight and i woke up feeling why must i be teased. It not like i was fiending for 3 months, i woulda liked to find bud sooner but after that long your just ehh whatever. But i didnt understand the dreams.

so iv been in germany for 7 months, shit bored, like no friends, not much to do on a day to day basis. i work and all the americans who live here just annoying you the pure stupdity and lazyiness wears on me. and i smoked so much it just didnt seem to work. i was gonna take a break but after a few days i still couldnt sleep. with all the stress i go through i could stand being up till 3am. So i got some budd and smoked and i feel a lil better.

i think the few day break just showed me in this situation if i keep my tolerance down budd will get me through the next year :( im hoping this summer some cool people might move here. but iv gotten closer to my family so if i can just get through the next year the rest of my life should be fine haha

Working out will help a little bit but won't do wonders. I wouldn't work out within a week of any kind of drug test as it will put any thc that is buried in your fat on the tip ( watered down version) and will come up for a test. I only say that because it seems you have some kind of time period.

Also there are no such things as drinks that wash out the THC. You have two methods to choose from, substitution ( using a different kind of pee) or dilution ( diluting thc in your pee, watering it down.)

I hope this helps!!!

p.s. I've found before going cold turkey just having a nightly sesh helps a lot. I know it doesn't sound like it would but not smoking all day and smoking once at night can be very rewarding. I'd suggest going that route after you've taken a t-break.

1. Yes you must excersise, do alot of cardio sweat it out.. i remember one time when my buddy told me my sweat smelt like weed hahaaha

2. Get a friend to piss for you n replace it, those are never a 100% but do drink alot of antioxidants to clean out your body, pomegranate, sorrel etc.

The reason I ask about supplements is because I was wondering if that would maybe substitute for going by without smoking. Like since drinking that gets rid of some trace, if I drank it a day after having smoked, would it take away days' worth of high-ness? So that way I could just take that instead of not smoking for however long.

Probably a stupid question though.

Also I've decided I'm gonna try 30 days. Spring break is in almost 30 days so I can't go crazy. I'll definitely try keeping it to nights only.

Starting tomorrow. I'm hoping the first week goes by smoothly.

You don't need more than a month, 2-3 weeks is fine. Just drink at least a gallon of water a day, and exercise like crazy. Since you are not running to lose weight, running with a garbage bag on can possibly lead to a faster time interval to flush out THC, however you will have to be careful as it can lead to serious dehydration if not careful.

Thanks again for the tips all. I've decided to try and break for at least 3 weeks.

Can somebody tell me tips on getting THC cells out of my system faster during these 3 weeks? I'm planning on working out. Mustbe18 suggested water, I'll be doing that.

Any kind of juices I can drink to flush THC out faster also? I'm just trying to speed up the procedure.

Thanks in advance.
