The problem with the Medicali initiative

    As I'm sure everyone knows, California is America's most prolific supporter and supplier of medical cannabis. Quite recently the news has been full of stories about dispenseraries opening up and how they have impacted the 'weed scene'.

    Having thought about this for quite some time, I realized I have yet to hear about any scientific research into medical cannabis centered in California. Almost once a month a dispensary is shut down by the D.E.A. due to their involvment in either extortion, illegal distribution, or in some cases violence.

    I think it would be a great idea for the local colleges to develop some type of research program designed to specifically progress the medical cannabis movement. By doing so, the medicali initiative would lose it's tarnished record as a legal way to buy something illegal. Perhaps at the very least a new drug could be developed that could replace marinol.

    Regardless of the community's intent, something needs to be done to establish something more than corrupt commerce. I estimate at least 30% of the weed sold in California legally to be re sold onthe street. While I am not an anti-marijuana advocate, I do believe that something drastic needs to occur. Having it be for the best (by means of extreme scientific research) would only help to provide a better tomorrow; not just another stoned night.

    What's everyone else's opinion on developing California as a cannabis research hub?

    Research has been hampered by the Federal Government which provides funding for scientific research and has banned it since MJ went on Schedule 1 years ago. There is some research going on by private individuals, check out issues of "O'Shaughnessy's Journal of Medical Marijuana" to find out what's going on.

    Cannabis, at worst, will make someone sleep through their math test, or laugh out loud at a joke that others don't quite get. Much like the title of this thread did for me.:D

    Seriously my friend, I recommend you do a bit of reading, before you bemoan the success of cannabis in California.

    It is, after all, the biggest cash crop in the State. The State that out produces all other States in agricultural dollars.

    Maybe we could do some collegiate research on why this corn fed bullshit industry keeps the lies coming out about the best friend California has, which is the cannabis industry.

    Cannabis is bigger than wine, nuts and fruits, or cattle.

    Happy cows in Cali? Shit, you should see our happy trees!

    I'm pretty sure the OP is saying that the way MMJ is executed is a sham. I don't agree, but I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think even the ones who actually need it most can deny that there are probably a LOT of "patients" that don't need it.

    I'm not saying it's a sham. I am saying it has it's problems and that the only way it is advertised is as a medicinal alternative to buying it off the street. It still lists all the same effects. It should be researched on the same level it is sold in order to ensure it's productivity.

    The bottom line is that there is much more media about the dispensaries and how they affect the market than there is about research. I was just wondering if anyone else agreed that California should integrate it's so called "Cash crop" with research and commerce.

    I think MJ research is a great idea.


    I think you are WAY off base that 30% of the legal weed is resold IMO.. That would not be very profitable. It is much more profitable to go about it in other ways... California's "market" is absolutely flooded and medicine is sold at the top end of the price scale. .. no need/profit in that resell.
