  1. What are some of the most affecting movies you've ever seen? I wanna watch a really deep movie that'll make me think and/or significantly affect me emotionally. I'm feeling a bit introspective tonight in case you didn't notice. SO! Name some movies that teach an important lesson, or that you think everyone should watch at least once. I'll start:

    The Lion King
    Apocalypse Now

  2. big fish
    a scanner darkly

  3. What the $&%# do We Know?

    Stranger Than Fiction

Amistad (Anthony Hopkins' speech at the end was fucking phenominal.)

Forrest Gump ("I've worn lots of shoes." -favorite movie line)

    Braveheart

  4. I second A Scanner Darkly. also, not a movie, but Six Feet Under

  5. The Fast and the Furious
    The Matrix

  6. i was really nice to people for like two days after i saw 7pounds

    Scanner darkly definitely
    A clockwork orange
    Pink Floyd-The wall
Eraserhead (You may not be ready for that mindfuck)
    Requiem for a dream
    Dark City
The number 23 (Alot of people hated it, i thought it was really good though)
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

EDIT: If you want an important lesson though, check out Fall of the Republic or Zeitgeist Addendum. Everyone should watch these two films

  8. Hahahaha, that had me cracking up.
I'd say, by FAR, Requiem for a dream..

  9. Watch American Beauty, it's a movie that I never get tired of. It teaches the audience about life.

  10. ATHFCMFFT [This just here so it can be capitalized].

  11. Into the wild brought a new prospective to my life. It made me go back to school and stop waiting for things i want and acctually reach out for them.

  12. Donnie Darko
    I Heart Huckabees
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Identity
    Butterfly Effect
    Full Metal Jacket
    American Beauty
    Carrie

  13. into the wild

    Waking Life- amazing movie.

  14. American Beauty has already been mentioned a lot, but that one definitely hit me.
    Also The Fountain.

Baraka affected me and made me a more spiritual person over all.

  15. The Fountain
    American Beauty
    Requiem for a Dream
    Into the wild
    Pi
    Moon
    A Clockwork Orange

All of these movies have changed my life but definitely the fountain.

  16. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.

  17. Stroszek. Without a second thought.

I have found a large number of Herzog's films to be... worldview altering. Lessons of Darkness and even Fitzcarraldo were superb.

I highly recommend you see these films. Never have I seen a person mix madness and passion so eloquently in the same breath.

  18. i think im the only Aronofsky fan that thought Pi totally blew shit....and " \t\t\t \t\t\tWhat the $&%# do We Know?" is a bunch of cultish nonsensical BS.

Anyways, personal list, some movies arent what your looking for perhaps

The Big Lebowski (saw it in theater with my movie loving mum, i was 12, changed alot of things for me)
Fight Club (very impressionable in the late 90's i guess, lol)
The Beach (inspired me to travel more, my influence to join the usn, bad idea that was)
Stay (2005) (dunno exactly why, but i still think about it years later)

    and to repeat others:
    requiem for a dream
into the wild (inspired a 3 month life hiatus)

also watched "A Serious Man" recently and it definitely has had me thinking ALOT recently, and its quite good

  19. I lol'd :D

    Almost Famous
    Fight Club
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Girl, Interrupted
    The Matrix
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (more so the book; but I saw the movie first and loved it)
    21 Grams

  20. I was just reading about that on IMDB, what's it about exactly? Looks surreal.
