My first ever Tattoo... How much would it cost?

Discussion in 'Tattoo, Piercings and Body Art' started by doyoulikegreen, Oct 24, 2009.

  1. Hey everyone.

Here's what I want my first tattoo to be. I plan on getting it on my right bicep/shoulder. It'll be about 5" diagonally in size.

Anyone have any idea what this is gonna cost? I'd like it to be as detailed as possible.

I know a lot of people wouldn't consider getting a weed tattoo, but Marijuana has helped me in unbelievable ways (I have cerebral palsy to start with) and I've always thought if I ever was to get a tattoo, it sure as hell better be something damn-well meaningful to me.

    Thanks guys n gals :)

  2. A small tattoo is usually 50-60 dollars. If you want decent ink that is not going to look faded in the coming years plan on spending 2-3 hours and 2-3 hundred dollars. Most artists dont put effort into small tattoos.

  3. Yea Id say about $60-80 (around here)..prices Im sure vary. Some of the places around here start at for $50 no matter the size, like said artist LOVE bigger tats. Depends..go and get quotes at some places, they will be able to look and tell you immediately and really shouldnt take long at all, might not have to make an appointment n such but who knows just depends on how popular the ink shop is. :smoking::wave:

  4. I know shops out here in AZ have a minimum. Then after that they charge 70+ an hour ( depending on where or who you are getting work done by )

I have an ambigram on my right tricep as my first tattoo ( so far ) that says my last name
took 1:45 minutes to complete and cost me $180 ( + 20 for the design and + another 30 for the tip to the artist )

very happy with it, just make sure you take care of it the way the artist tells you or else you will be back in there again getting it re done!

  5. In TX we have a minimum of $40 and that goes for even if it's just a dot of ink. I'd say you're probably looking around $100-150 if you want it colored.

  6. I have an ambigram too. Well, it says two different things. When I look down on it is says serenity the other way it says courage. So, I don't know if it's the exact same thing as an ambigram.

  7. Tight tight, yeahh it's an ambigram you can have them say the same thing or two different things. I wish I coulda had mine say my first and last name, but they aren't the same number of letters >.<

  8. What they said ^^

  9. sounds good. Thanks everyone

  10. These tattoos are mainly placed on the forearm so that a person can flip it in one way or the other hence achieving the full effect of the Ambigram design. However, some people still place the tattoo in other locations like on the leg but its effect may not be so visible.

  11. Just remember, you get what you pay for. I did the chop shop tattoo for my first. It looked like shit and 10 years had it covered up at a private studio. My current artist is $160 an hour and she is world class. Private studio, just her, no flash art or bullshit on the walls. It takes over a year to get an appointment with her. Whatever you put on your body is permanent. Save your money and do it right the first time. The sleeve on my right arm has taken almost 4 years going every month. How quickly they do "quality" ink on the tattoo shows on TV is bullshit.

You pay top dollar for top shelf bud... apply that mentality to body art and you won't regret it.

    Good luck

  12. shop around, read some customer reviews. most places have a shop fee, too.

  15. It can cost anything depends on the artist how good he or she is if they even want to do it some artists refuse certain designs
