Hey, so recently my bong broke at the joint, the glass on glass piece broke off. However, it was a clean break and it sits perfectly, therefore I can glue it back. Blowing is costing too much and I need to go with this option. Can you guys give some advice as to what would be the best to do this job? Im concerned about fumes, what would hold the best in the future. Also, heat shouldnt be that big of an issue I feel, as its on the joint, not the stem or the bowl. I looked at a local Canadian Tire (im in Canada), and heres two good candidates, let me know if you think they would work well and which one is better. Unfixable. I'm not just saying that to be a troll , it is actually not worth your time using glue. Take it to a glassblower, it needs to be cut and replaced with a new joint. Throw the downstem in the garbage, its done. I know someones gunna disagree with me, but my personal preference is to never use glue on a glass tube. That looks like some decent glass, it would be a shame to see it all globbed up and leaking air.
Hmm yeah but the part on the joint fixes perfectly, I even took it to a headshop and they saw the piece and said it would work with epoxy. Thing is the cost of getting this repaired by a glassblower is gonna cost like almost as much as the bong cost itself. I'm prolly going to try it anyway. And hopefully it doesn't leak air. Oh and yeah ignore the downstem, I bought a new one, that cannot be repaired at all.
I would use super glue (cyanoacrylate). It would be easily applied, quick and it doesn't leave much of a messy finish.
hes right if you really wana fix it get it re blown, seeing as how you said that isnt really an option, my advice is to either spend the 10 bucks on your bootleg repair on a spoon and atleast smoke good. or mighty putty or some sort of putty like that, my friend actually fixed his gong like that, deffinatly buy a new downstem first tho.. that ones snaped but yeah basically, put the new downstem in, and putty it in place, make sure its air tight tho.. cause that can make ur bong useless and ugly.
If the joint break lines up at least you won't have any leaks. If the repair is more than the bong, I would be kinda hesitant as well. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to use very very little glue and put some sort of pressure on it while its drying.
Hmm yeah thats what the guy at the headshop told me. Really little glue so that it doesnt come out much on either side and then pressure. Also, to the guy that said superglue, epoxy is supposed to work much better and heat and water resistant too..
Hey this sounds like a good idea, do you have a pics of ur friends bong cuz its kinda hard to picture. Also, and would a regular dremel do the job of sanding glass? This is also a good 2nd resort option in case if I use epoxy and the gong part breaks off again or falls, I can always do this.
Why would you not just get it fixed by a legit blower instead of chance for inhaling some toxic shit. You say it costs too much yet you have high end glass? Just don't buy an weed this week and put that money towards fixxing it right.
My boyfriend and I have a RooR broken at the joint. Just use electrical tape to tape in a down stem tightly. This has worked really well for us until we find a glass blower to fix it. Tape is much easier to remove - dont fuck up your glass with glue. It has worked for months now.
Well I got a great deal on the bong and it costed $100. Getting it reblown will cost anywhere from $70-100 and I will have to travel quite a bit to find a blower. Therefore in terms of cost it does not seem feasible to me. I can probably get a similar bong from the same place at a similar price, but I would not want to spend that much money to fix this. I hope you see my point of view Tried the tape stuff, didnt work too well as it leaks air, also I'm looking for a permanent solution.
damn your defuser broke too! hmm I don't know then I've fixed a couple bubblers that broke on poor welding joints and it did the job just fine
Not sure then, we have minimal air leakage with our tape. Just find a glass blower or some head shops can send them off (at least there is one in town here that does).
duct tape it togheter. i use duct tape for everything, from keeping the breeze from coming thru the window, to hanging cfls to the ceiling, surely it can work for you ,
Yeah the diffy stem was in the bong when it fell.. Im so pissed at the stupid bitch that knocked it over. And yeah lol duct tape... I want something permanent. Im going to try the epoxy, probably within the next two days, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Yeah also there were a lot of people there and i didnt see it happen exactly and she dint drop it, bumped into a table where it started rocking and then fell on the table. Everyone was really drunk and confused and it was hard to pinpoint what happened. I know it was her, but its gonna be hard to ask her to replace it. Also, she doesnt smoke at all and knows shit-all about it and I barely know her.
Why not use glass silicone? Clear GE silicone type 1 without the mold prevention. You can find it at your local home depot. I used it for aquarium building and it works perfectly. Use a few drops of loctite gel in order to keep the joint in place while you seal it with silicone then swipe clean and wa-la. If it gets messy, take an exacto hobby knife and trim away once it has fully cured (24 hours)
