ok so after a disaster in september I'm starting a new SOG (sea of green) cycle.
I'm using an old box that I was able to recover after 'the incendent'
a mix of full spectrum CFLs and an LED pannel that i'm looking to try out. I'm really drawn to the low power consumption and the lack of heat the CFLs have provided me in the past and figured why not see if the claims of the LEDs can match it.
I really am only doing this as a hobby (a delicious hobby at that) and like to mess around with re-vegging, training and other tricks used when dealing with limited space to produce higher yields.
I stick with DYNA-Grow nutrients and off the home depot shelf vegetable soil.
Currently (I'll post some pics) i've got bag seeds from god knows where, two dutch bubblegum babies, and a re-vegged lollipop that I was able to salvage after 'the incedent'
We're about three weeks in at the moment.
any other question, comments or anything. drop me a line.

m new to this site and now ready to set up my first grow! Im planning on Growing in a semi stealth growbox made from 2 storage containers attached n airtight etc with intake 6 inch at the bottom and outtake 6 inch connected to a homemade carbon filter at the top!
Lihts used are going to be 1X150w cfl and a quadband 90w led panel 12x12!
Am planning to grow scrog stlye, the box will be 4ft in height 2ft x 2ft!
Bought my seed from attitude as they seemed to b reliable plus their UK based! I ordered with a mate each we got 2 blueberry lowrider 2 easy rider 2 red dwarf auto and 3 photoperiod seeds each la woman la confidential lemon skunk!
How do u think this will work? I will be only growing 1 plant lowlife easy rider, for my first grow how do u think this will respond to my choice in lights and grow method?
Any advice critisism and whatever else u wanna say would b appreciated!!

sounds good and good luck. my advice would be to space out the seeds you plan to grow. you'd be suprised how quickly the space in your box is going to be used up. if you're going to attempt the SOG, you're going to need to setup a 2nd box b/c there's no way to keep one plant vegging while trying to flower the others.
good luck and any pics would be helpful in giving more advice. you sound like you have plenty of light for the space. have you picked out your nuts yet?i use the DynaGrow line, its a complete nut set that contains not only the main nuts but the trace elements you're going to need. it will work in both hydro and soil setups.. i've done both and soil is hands down much easier. just be sure not to over water or over fertilize....
hmmm what else... i stick to 24 hour lite durning the begining and adjust down as need depending on how the plants react. and then i really turn down the lites durning flowering to almost only 6-7 hours of light....
patience.. it will pay off.

oh also, get yourself a heating pad to keep the soil warm durning vegging. helps with rooting.
and if you really wanna go nuts, you can do a homemade CO2 genorator with sugar water and active dry quick yeast. (think back to science class and how beer and bread is made to confirm why this will work...) this will help throughout the cycles. and is perfect for a small space like yours. you can use an old butter tub with some holes in the top. though be sure not to over-do the mixture, it will bubble over... i usually do a simple syrup solution (equal parts water and sugar) and then a tsp of yeast... maybe a bit more...

Wow, nice homemade Grow box brotha! I really do like the C02 Idea I've been using it myself for a while and it works GREAT. I wanna follow this as I have no experience with LED's and I wanna see how yours comes out.

well it's been a while since i've logged in, but here's a rundown.
I'm having a hell of a time dealing with the cold weather and my impatience. Also these LED lights are turning into more of a hassle than they're worth.
So after about 2 months, i've successfully flowered an old re-vegged plant and that was well and good, but the bag seeds that I'm using are either slow or not taking to the light that i'm producing.
I've had a couple thoughts and here are the changes that I've made.
-I've taken the LED pannel out of the flower box. I was noticing that the thing wasn't turning on correctly on the timer. This got me thinking as too why I had this in the flowering box to begin with. Becasue of the advantage in engery savings and reduced heat, I should have had this running in the veg box all along. brain-fart but whatever, you learn as you go.
-i've also had to put heating pads underneath all of my grows. Don't know if anyone has noticed but things are pretty cold here in dirty jersey. the setup is in the basement which keeps a pretty consistent temperature, but it's been consitently cold, so we've had to make up for that.
-i've also switched to larger pots in the veg box. I initally thought that growing these things into the pots that would be beinfitial to the space in used in the SOG. turns out it's going to be easier to grow a mother(s) in normal sized pots and then use the Aerogarden to make the clones and have those root in the smaller pots.
-LED lights makes for overwatering an easy thing to do. it really is amazing how much my soil blend abosrbes and keeps water. so those people looking to use LEDs look to space out your feedings. Your roots will thank you. trust me.
I'll get some pictures up soon. you can see how i'm trying to stunt the growth of the new plants in a save space effort, but really just a reason for me to vaporize something.
stay classy NJ.

Well for keeping temps up I'd recommend a can of FOAMSTUFF. Spray in all the cracks & crevices. Then get painters plastic and wrap it around the box/door to allow you in obviously. But it will help reduce cold airflow in. With a space as cold as that, you want to circulate the warmer air in the box as much as possible to build heat. This cant happen if it keeps sucking in cold air.

hmmm interesting idea. i have some old painters plastic gathering dust. what did you use to make the plastic as tight as possible. This seems like something the winterizing plastic might be a better choice. you know being able to use the hairdryer to get an even tighter seel.

yah winterizing plastic would be perfect, Painters plastic is just something most people have around. And I never thought of (Shrink-wrapping) it with a hair dryer, thats a good idea..
