Marijuana stops sweating?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by DuNN, Oct 15, 2009.

  1. for some reason in the mornings after i wake up i am always uncomfortably hot.
i sweat from my hands, feet, armpits and especially my forehead.
this excessive sweating usually goes away after an hour or so of being awake and i;ve tried taking cold showers to lower my temperature, but nothing works.
    except for marijuana.
when i smoke in the mornings before school, i never sweat. I feel a bit hotter, but not nearly as uncomfortable and pretty much no sweat.
idk if i have an actual sweating disorder or what, but i now consider weed my medicine in this sense and has helped make my life much better.

Marijuana has anti-cholinergic effects (one of which is reduced sweating), which is why it is not suggested for use in excessively hot weather.
Have you checked your blood sugar during these sweating episodes? Do you feel ill, or just sweat a lot?

  3. i have found i sweat when i dont smoke. it is a withdraw effect of the bud.

    mostly balmy hands

  4. i had sweaty palms for as long as i can remember.when i play video games and get into it,my hands leave the controller all wet,i have to whip it off before i hand it over to other people, hahah.and yeah the herb does help with it.

    oh cannabis,what don't you cure???

  5. Hm, waking up drenched in sweat . . .

Do you ever wake up "for no reason," gasping and covered in sweat? Are you tired A LOT, even after getting a good night's sleep? Sleepy during the day, sleepy all the time, fall asleep at the drop of a hat? You may want to ask your doc about getting screened for sleep apnea. It's pretty common, and can happen to anyone--young or old, slim or fat. It tends to be stereotyped as an "old fat person's disease," which it assuredly isn't. Some people think that the young, hot, healthy Heath Ledger might have had undiagnosed sleep apnea, and that's what may have killed him (in combination with all the pharmaceuticals he was taking, the combination relaxed his airway to the point where he just suffocated in his sleep).

Sleep apnea is where your airway doesn't stay open at night while you sleep, resulting in dozens (or hundreds) of times a night where you stop breathing. Untreated, it can increase your risk of stroke, heart attack, and other horrible conditions.

It's easily treated, sometimes even by sleeping on your side or stomach! Other possible treatments include: a special mouthpiece, surgery (only sometimes), or a special machine that helps you breathe at night, called CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). Getting sleep apnea treated means better sleep, and a greatly reduced risk of dying young. If you have sleep apnea, your sleep specialist can recommend the appropriate course of treatment for you. CPAP machines are sold only with a prescription in the USA.

For anyone diagnosed with sleep apnea (or if you have a loved one who has it), this lady's blog is a frickin' gold mine of info. Love her name, too: Mile High Sleeper Gal's blog.

Just throwing that possibility out there! Glad the pot is helping!

Also: many people believe that MJ can help open their airway and help relieve symptoms. I would agree! If you have sleep apnea, I would still recommend MJ in conjunction with a standard treatment from your sleep specialist, such as the CPAP machine. Sweet dreams!

  6. I never feel sick, I just sweat lol
And while my dad does have sleep apnea, I don't believe this is the case considering I always sleep well

  7. when i sit at the computer sometimes my palms start to sweat really bad. i spark a bowl and it goes away.

  8. I'm going to jump in on this and say I get the same way.

  9. Only study I have on sweat is that THC can be detected in sweat, but that doesn't have anything to do with your problems. All I can say is that if it works for you guys, it's great!

Didn't seem to help with "hot flash" sweats, though, but that is from an entirely different cause! ;)

  10. i know this is old, but i find this to be common!

i started sweating when i was 16 (out of know where) and since then i have been to doctors trying to find something that would finally help me even if it was just a little. well way later down that path, with many epic fails, i found myself smoking marijuana with a few old buddies and noticed that my sweating was slowing down and by the time i got home i was dry. i was pissed and happy at the same time! to put this in context i was going through 4-6 shirts, 4 pairs of socks, and at least 2-3 pairs of boxers DAILY ( doing no activity and just being at home ). i'm now 26. since then i have been smoking daily and preach the word on the affects that marijuana has had on me. no other drug i have been prescribed comes close.. i have more of my life back and spend way less time being embarrassed!

if this works for a few imagine what it could do for others out there when this is legalized!!

  11. Interesting.  I sweat a lot, usually, due to an inability to regulate my temperature.  I have noticed a significant decrease since I started using mmj about a month ago, with all my weird autonomic dysfunction stuff.

Dammit, WHY can't we get some good research going?

  12. burdock root will help with to much sweating. just add it to your food eaten raw or cooked and eat it regularly. it worked for me and was recommended by my doctor.

  13. Weed impacts sweating. On a related issue, some people say it doesn't help hot flashes, but this year mine became horrible. I would break out in a full body sweat every hour. Smoking didn't touch it, but taking ¼ gram of RSO nightly has resolved the problem almost entirely.

One theory I have is that RSO stops hot flashes by restoring the body's balance. Hot flashes are evidently caused by a sharp drop in estrogen. Perhaps the RSO stops the hot flashes by preventing sharp drops in estrogen. If so, the RSO could be anti-aging, preventing the loss of estrogen. Alternatively, maybe the RSO isn't preventing any overall loss of estrogen, but causing the loss to be more consistent and gradual. Since treating the hot flashes with RSO, periodically my body temperature seems slightly raised. Feeling slightly warm from time to time beats hot flashes hands down, especially right now in the frozen midwest!

Sleep Apnea has a strong hereditary association in many families but it is not universally a hereditary issue.  Odds get worse as the number of other family members who are known to have Sleep Apnea goes up. Siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, & cousins.

The good news is that Δ9-THC improves the condition and is the only medication I've heard about so far that does.  Most of us use a CPAP and it seems to be improving the effectiveness of my CPAP therapy.

Also one of the known side effects of Δ9-THC is hypothermia.  I know your not cooling down that far but it might explain why having a puff is cooling you down.

  15. So, little update.  I'd been using a lot (for me) of mmj for about 9 days, because I had some temporary horrible nerve pain.  Now that my pain is back down to my usual level, I'm just going to use it at night again.  And sure enough, the overheating and sweating and core being too hot while my toes are freezing is all back.

It's not much, anecdata really, but it's an interesting piece of the puzzle.

  16. Thread necro for science.

Summer/winter (piling on layers), and whether I feel warm or not, it doesn't matter, I just sweat all the time if I even perceive a little heat over maybe 20C. Surely enough I began to notice, every time after I hit the pipe, after a long day of sweating, it just stopped. I can still feel how hot my body is, and the problem is frustrating because my temperature doesn't at all feel close to being intolerable, or even uncomfortable. But it's the sweating kills my comfort. And so without fail, smoking marijuana stops it every single time.

    Feels so comfy

Weird, Marijuana makes me sweat more than before i started using it:blink:

Sent from my LG-D160 using Grasscity Forum mobile app

  18. marijuana increases my heart rate, therefore making me sweat even more. OP you are lucky. I have never had that luxury.

  19. I used to sweat profusely from my arm pits. Even if cold I would have sweat running down my arms and body. A dermatologist gave me a Rx anti perspirant and it did nothing. I stopped wearing it and it got better. Then it completely stopped. I now wear deodorant with no aluminum salts which is not an anti perspirant and the sweating is just a distant memory.

The funny thing is my fiancee also sweated a lot only in her pits, though no where near as bad as I did. I suggested she try my deodorant and hers to went away.

I wonder how many people out there use anti perspirant, sweat, put more on, just to make it worse in a viscous cycle?

I know this thread was started long ago but maybe it will help someone else one day.

  20. I used to wake up sweating every morning when I was on Paxil. My doc said it was a fairly common side effect. The sweating stopped when I quit taking it.
