From what I've read 60 degrees can hold more o2 than even 65 degrees for that matter. Although I haven't read a ton of info on the subject. It was Jorge Cervantes' book that suggests 60 degrees was the way to go.
while this may be true, the colder water environment can inhibit and stunt growth, in addition, the roots uptake o2 when water is pumped out of the buckets and fresh air is introduced to the roots. I just don't hear of very many people chilling there water to 60 degrees. and wanted to point that out, but if it works well for you, then Grow On my friend.
I looked around for a few more opinions on the subject. It seems 65 degrees is the general norm for a good temp. But the other majority is those who aim for 55-60 degrees. So who knows really. Although I don't think 60 is dangerous to the plant. Especially with the kinda systems we use. Only hits the roots a limited number of times during the day. I just added the chiller to my setup, so we'll see how it goes
What buckets are you talking about? I'm using a 12 plant site ebb & grow system. It's expandable to 48 sites for the one 55 gallon Rez/ controller bucket combo
Update: plants are lookin pretty good. Although I think they may be dealing with a tad of nute burn. Prolly 100 ppm to high. Changin rez tomorrow though to my first stage of flowering nutes - 50% flora nova bloom , 50% fox farm open sesame (one of a 3 part powdered flowering nute) aiming for 725-750ppm or so for two weeks. I'm 5 days into flowering now. Also picked up a c.a.p. Day/night-heating/cooling controller , keeping my temps between 77 & 82 degrees tested my co2 levels. They are around 1400ppm
This grow is at a rented location. Sadly I can't just tear up the carpet. But it doesn't get wet or anything. Haven't hadvany issues with it far as I can tell Update: Changed out my rez, including 450ppm of flora nova bloom & 300ppm of open sesame = 750ppm total. Nute temp was slightly adjusted to 62 degrees or so. I'm seeing two distinct types of pheno's of my ladies. Which from what I read is common with this cross. One taller, more sativa dominate with heavy blueberry smell and flavor the other pheno is indica dominate/bushy more of a general fruity smell, not quite as stinky. But we'll see for sure if this is the way mine will go. Will know more as they begin to start popping the bud sites holding humidity at 45%
Just a suggestion, accidents do happen, it might be wise to put down some pondliner under the buckets, then tack it up the wall a couple of inches, then throw down some panda film, white side up, it'll throw around a lot more light, and the liner acts as insurance agianst accidents, and makes clean up so much easier. keeping the carpet fresh and new.
That carpet isn't exactly the greatest of quality and condition. I used to have some panda poly down before. But yeah you're prolly right bout takin extra precautions. Just caught a buzz, and feelin groggy - fear my wild and crazy "drug addiction" at work.....BAM +rep for takin the time and pointin it out
Update: finally did some pruning now that it's day seven of flowering. Since I have two distinct pheno's, only 7 outta my 12 needing any topping. I added another tie higher up on the stalks attached to my stakes. Moved lights up a bit etc. Current: Ph 5.8-5.9 ppm 700-750 (tds factor @ .5) Rez temps 62-63 degrees new pics below: pic from today dec. 5th quite. just a closer shot from today also -no beginnings of bud porn yet to see-
Plants are looking good man, so your just doing this in an apt or something? Hope the rent is nice and cheap.
Looks nice. If those sativa phenos are anything like my old C99, they'll take 11 weeks to really finish and will provide you with some seriously mind-alternating smoke.
From what I've read since the c99 is crossed with blueberry the sativa dom pheno's should take at most 9-10 weeks tops. I sure hope they don't take a full 11 weeks. I can't wait
Update: fresh pics for your viewing pleasure. No problems really since last update. Although I've realized that this strain is pretty picky on what ppm range it likes. It was great between 700-750ppm. The Rez had gotten a bit low and the ppm fell to 625-650ppm. By this time I kinda figured it might able to take a small bump in food. So I adjusted to 800-850ppm. Handful of plants had a few leaves that started to give me the skinny downward claw. But it's all good now. The growth with this strain is awesome. The clones at transplant time (you can look at page 1 to see them 3 days into veg) I vegged for 10 days. I'm at day 17 into flowering. They've prolly increased in size by 20x's. I'm going to prune them in the next day or two. It's getting a little crowded in there! Changed Rez today as well. 50% flora nova. 50% beastie bloomz. Sticking to 750ppm @ 5.9 pH
Looks really good man, love the setup. The plants look great, they may be picky, but at least you know what you need to keep 'em at. Nice work.
