It's no different and just as ridiculous. I just find it funny when people get bent outta shape over 'what the correct genre is'. They seem more interested on categorizing the music instead of just listening to it and enjoying it. I remember back in high school sitting beside some kids who were big metal fans. They would get into arguments over what songs would qualify as death metal.
Exactly, I mean, I didn't make this to spark up that type of discussions. I made it because there might be people willing to embrace the that techno isn't all electronic music and learn something new, it's just really basic. I didn't want to throw in more information than that was really needed. Thanks for the support everyone
You are right, arguing about genres is a bit insane. music is music. that's why I listed the origins of the main genres. I mean, subgenres are good for explaining styles, but most songs don't belong to any one genre. Arguing what a song is is pointless, however subgenres can help people explain what they're into. For instance, I like hardcore, but I'm not a fan of gabber, nor am I fan of happy hardcore. I mostly listen to breakbeat hardcore and freeform hardcore (which are technically subgenres of happy hardcore, but not so candy). Anyone who's into hardcore will probably know what I'm talking about, people who aren't probably won't. Breakbeat hardcore is similar to drum&bass because it has a repeating break loop @ 170 bpm, but it's different in that there's a 4/4 kick and the loop tends to be smaller (4 beat loop vs 2 beat loop). Freeform hardcore is sort of like the psytrance of hardcore. btw- For anyone interested, I am a DJ and I spin a lot of hardcore and drum&bass and my most recent mix has some dubstep in it.
