Has anyone else been scopin this thing out? Its kind of like a console, only it can play games on all platforms without needing any sort of high powered hardware because all the computations are done over the server and sent to your computer or the little onlive box you get when you purchase a subscription. So all you do is open up the onlive browser and select a game and your instantly playing the game, no installations, and no upgrading of your system. New OnLive service could turn the video game world upside down | VentureBeat If this goes well it will be huge for the gaming industry. EDIT: "Big game publishers and developers — Electronic Arts, THQ, Take-Two Interactive, Codemasters, Eidos, Atari, Warner Bros., Epic Games and Ubisoft — have agreed to distribute their games through the OnLive network, bypassing traditional retail game sales in an effort to reach people who don’t buy game consoles or expensive game computers."
That's old news. They are trying take over gaming community just like playstation network and xboxlive.
its alot different than xbox live or playstation network though, its not actually a console, the onlive box you buy only projects the pictures on the screen, all the computer work is done over the network on high powerful servers and then sent back to your onlive box to be projected on the screen. So it defeats the need of having high power computer parts. EDIT: i see what your saying about Microsoft tryin to take over gaming, with the marketplace basically containing everything from movies, tv shows, to demos and alot of other shit.
Yeah there was quite a hub-bub over this when it was first announced, a lot of criticism regarding it and after reading all of it I'm skeptical on whether it will work or not Here is a blog post I've read on it, the guy is very biased against it though part1 part2
