hello all! i am going to embark on the magical hempy bucket journey! but i have a couple questions i need help with first...
i plan on doing a cup of water/paper towel combo to crack the seed and expose the taproot, then place taproot down 1/4 in. in rockwool and lightly cover. my question now is this: do i continue to keep my rockwool (w/ newly placed seeds inside) in a dark place? or do i start putting them under the light now?
and another question, once the seeds have started to sprout, is it correct to place them in thier final hempy buckets?
regardless of when the rockwool goes in the bucket, it seems to me that the rockwool will have a hard time not sinking in the 3:1 per/ver mix. have growers who have hempy bucketed before found a need to stake or wire the rockwool in place?
and also, (final q, sorry!) should i bury the rockwool in the per/ver at all?
any help is appreciated, don't wanna f it up...

Im growing using the hempy bucket method, just started to germinate my seeds about 36 hrs ago.

Im germinating 12 seeds so stuck them in paper towel on a plate, sprayed them so there wet, wrapped the plate in cling film then stuck my temp prob in so i culd keep an eye on them overnight.

Temp has been 19.9 and most have split :hello:

As for the rockwool im not too sure myself

if you're not using rockwool, what medium are you gonna have the seedlings in? just the per/ver mix?

yeh perlite/vermiculite at a ratio of 75/25%, following _numpty_ and master_skunks grows :D

kyoinidaho keep the rockwool in the dark till the seed sprouts then turn the lights on. only give them water for about 2 weeks before adding nutes. thats my plan anyway :smoking:

what you growing?

i just today finally recieved some feminized white queen seeds. i'm just waiting now on my rockwool, i thought they would've had it at home depot...way too far to drive to a hydro store (7 hrs)...
when you put your seedlings in your hempys, are going to fully water your per/ver mix right away (and create a res right away)? it just seems that water sitting in the res for 2 wks + unused would, i don't know, maybe go stale or muck up or something...
this is going to be my first grow ever, and i'm real worried about f-ing up high dollar seeds...
i'm also for the first time really getting paranoid, stomach queasy and all that...
kinda worried about odors...i have an intake and outtake fan, also an ozone generator in the room...but it's a house i'm renting, so i can't really go cuttin' holes in the exterior, you know? so my outtake fan is just going above the ceiling, above another "ceiling" layer of insulation (real f-ed up house, used to be a garage or something)...i'm thinking about maybe scattering a bunch of mothballs around up there, maybe open up half a dozen boxes of baking soda...you think that would help? any other cheap hints you might have would be the shit, i'm about ALL tapped out now...

dam dude 7 hours? where ya from LOL?

Anyway man, i have 6 5litre pots, but im using small plastic drinkin cups first, because yeah theres no point stickin tiny seedlings into a huge pot. so today my plan is, soak my rockwool in some water ive had sittin for 24hrs, drop my germinated seeds in, cover the rockwool and check on it every 12hrs or so.

Soon as i see green come thru, im placing them in plastic drinking cups. (mini hempy buckets ;)) and stickin them under my lights in my grow tent. I got 2 sizes, the bigger cups i dont have 12 unfortunatly so im using the smaller cups for a week for 2, then ill use the bigger cups when i get some more. then just before flowering there gettin put into the proper hempy buckets.

So i think with this method using smaller pots/cups its less stressfull on the seedling and you dont waste as much water/nutes :smoking:

but if you put the seeds in cups first, aren't there going to be a lot roots hanging down to deal with when transplanting?
and what about them hitting the res?
i thought that by placing the seeds in the big bucket right after they start to sprout (probably wiring the rockwool in place so it doesn't sink) it would be causing the least amount of stress on the plant, never really making it go through a transition at all, you know?
this will be my first grow, so any thoughts or opinions or help or links or anything would be awesome

that is definately an awesome way to transplant
it doesn't seem like it would shock the plant too incredibly much...that guy should have been going to something bigger than those butter tubs though...
there`s also a couple good threads off there that aren't on grasscity
thanks for the link
