Hi I was wondering if i should bury 5 gallon buckets to stick out of the ground only a few inches, in a hole with say 6-12 inches of gravel on the bottom? Some of my most secluded spots have about 1-2inches of muddy water on the surface of the soil in the spring now. Will this work if the PH of the water is 6? Its fresh water, I think it is rainwater / runoff collecting before it hits a stream farther below. I was thinking of using a 50% perlite mix for soil and fertilizing with general hydroponics using the lucas formula? What are your thoughts on this, im just under 40deg N. Latitude, will I get bud mold on strains that finish sept/early oct?

If this wont work I guess I will be forced to plant only on areas where there is no standing water.

It is never a good idea to plant in water and anyone who tells you this doesnt know what they are talking about. Take the time and find spots with no standing water or perhaps on the edge of the swamp....3 or for week from the swap bank, cut down a few trees if needed. Dont waste your time with five gallon pails in a swamp...plant in the ground!!! good luck

I thought I was clear enough sorry, this is not a *real* swamp its just an accumulation of run off rain water and such, it never gets more than 4inches deep.

EDIT: I am a big fag of 7L&Eso, DC2 was a great album, I didnt like A new dope that much though. Demigodz as a whole is sick and the merger with styles of beyond is sick too.

I really can´t follow why you would want to bury a bucket. It seems to offer no advantages over burying directly in the ground.

The soil is to moist to grow in, and with a simple ammending im afraid that it still might not drain well enough, and I wanted to have the pots buried to keep my area stealthly and looking natural.

You probably have a workable spot. I think you may be wanting to bury your container too deep. But do yourself a favor and search swamp growing and swamp tubes on this forum or any forum for that matter, there are plenty of documented swamp grows and how - too's on it. Just my two cents.:smoke:
Good Luck

i think you'd be better off building a mound in the middle of the water and plant on that.. i'd say atleast 18 inches outa the water, and you have to account for how much rain you will have.. your 2 inches of water can turn into 12" depending on your climate..

Thanks for the advice, I searched a decent amount on a bunch of different sites but could never find one that was similar to mine. it was either ones that were in swamps that had to be accessed by boat, not a small floodwater collection site like mine. Thats why I figured since mine was like half a swamp I could get away with combining planting in a pot(deep swamps) with planting in the ground(normal areas, much more stealth). I figured with a nice enough gravel bed like you would put in for a drainpipe it would give me enough for my plants roots to breath.

I think maybe I will try one or two plants like this to see if it works, and just grow a smaller number only at my dry locations.
